Air con / heater system - function advice please?
Posted by: lordivanhoe - 26 Nov 2023, 23:24 - Forum: 7 - Heating / Air Conditioning - Replies (2)

Hey all, wondering if anyone has an answer to this query..?

OK, so, happy days, my air con (having been checked over and regassed earlier this summer) now works.
Unfortunately, some as-yet-to-be-determined fault means that my radiator fans don't respond to any 'automatic' signal(s) from anywhere in the car.  Including turning on the air con.
When I got the car, the radiator fan was set to 'permanently on' by means of a connection directly across the otterstat switch (I understand this happens a fair bit?).
A new otterstat hadn't solved the problem.
Up until now, no problem; I installed a manual switch in the cabin and have installed temp sensors in the engine and gauges in the cabin; I keep an eye on those, and if the engine temp warrants it, I turn the rad fans on.  Just means a bit of extra alertness required..!
Of course, this means I also have to turn the rad fans on when the air con is on (again, doesn't come on automatically).
Something obviously amiss somewhere in the rad fan control circuit, but sorting that's a job (on the list!) for another day..

(Sorry, finally getting to the question here!)
Now, the air con/ heater master control knob goes through various 'modes' as you turn it.  IIRC, it's 'max' air con, then 'norm' air con, then 'bi-level', then 'vent', then 'heater' and finally 'defrost'.
Clearly the air con is expected to be ON and I NEED to have the rad fans running for the first two modes.

But (and here, at last, is the question): what other modes is the Air Con system supposed to be nominally 'ON'?  (or in other words, in what other modes does the air con normally activate, in a fully functioning system?)
I have not dared to use anything other than the first two 'air con' modes up 'til this point, 'cos obviously if the air con switches on but the rad fans aren't also on then I could boil (?) or otherwise bu99er up my air con; conversely, I don't want to put the rad fans on unnecessarily if in fact the system is in a mode in which the air con would be 'off'.

I guess a related question is: what does the system actually do in 'bi-level' and 'vent' modes..?
For completeness, my presumption is that warm air is blown into (respectively) the car or up onto the windscreen in the 'heater' or 'defrost' modes.
(but is the air con also on, of course..?)

Look forward to any nuggets of wisdom!!

Cheers aye,

Ivan..

Back to the future - plush toys
Posted by: JohnC - 03 Nov 2023, 20:51 - Forum: Off topic talk, general chat etc - Replies (1)

I have a limited number of Back to the Future plush toys, mainly Marty and DeLoreans (wish the ‘cuddly’ car had been a thing when my nephew was younger).

The range of values on eBay seem to vary wildly, but they cost me average of £20 each.

Is anyone interested as I could bring to NEC or sell to club for resale… I’d have paid a premium at the NEC if I’d seen them before…

East Midlands Xmas Meet 2023 - BOOKING MADE!
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 01 Nov 2023, 22:54 - Forum: Midlands - Replies (21)

hi all,

I've not booked anything yet, but do we have any preferences for
location for this years Xmas meet up?

I try and keep it near to a major road or motorway to make access
as easy as possible, but I'm open to suggestions.

Also, we call it the 'East Midlands meet', but literally everyone is welcome
if they fancy a drive out.  DeLorean is optional, this is always more of a
social event then a car meet.

Ideally we need to formulate something in the next week-ten days so
that we can be in with a chance of booking somewhere.

Exclamation New Social Media Secretary!
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 31 Oct 2023, 21:25 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (19)

Hi all,

The Club has expanded its Social Media presence in recent weeks - although
we will be ditching Twitter/X - personally, for me, its just become a cesspit of
hatred, intolerance, racism, homophobia, transphobia, etc, and I no longer want
to be associated with it, and I will be deleting the Club's Twitter account shortly.

We are now active on:

YouTube
Threads
Facebook
Instagram
TikTok

just search 'DeLorean Owners Club UK' in any of those sites and we'll come up - we
are new on Threads & Instagram, and we are gradually building our content on there.

This gives me the job of announcing a new member to the DOC-UK Team!!

We are delighted to announce that William Bollands has stepped up to be our new
Social Media Secretary and he will be our main contact - I'll help with Instagram and
Threads, and I'll continue to be the main admin on the Facebook page, but that's basically
because I set it up via my own personal Facebook page about 10+yrs ago.

So, thank you to William for stepping up to this, it's great to have a younger member getting
involved and dragging the Club into the modern age lol

There is still a new website being developed, hopefully discussions with the web builder about
that will happen over the NEC Weekend, but that is an ongoing WIP.

Anyone tried 205/70 R14 on the front?
Posted by: Justwatching - 16 Oct 2023, 18:21 - Forum: 6 - Brakes / Wheels / Tyres - Replies (3)

As above.

BF Goodrich make a suitable rear tyre in their T/A Radial range with raised white lettering. Closest thing they're got for the front is 205/70 R14. I probably don't have to change my tyres for several years, so it's a bit academic, but curious if anyone has fitted a slightly larger tyre on the front and if it looks okay?
