Angle drive - Rich Hanlon - 19 Nov 2023

Hi folks, what are people doing for angle drives these days?

I need to examine in more detail but I think mines on its way out.

What's the giveaway? Speedo bounce?

If it's not actually snapped, then now is the time to take it off the car and assess. It may just need some attention to clean it up and regrease it etc.

think mine is still okay but still need to remove it from the hub since I've gone the GPS speedbox route so if I can get it off and it works you can have mine if needed

Thanks both. Yes, bounce but occasionally drops out altogether. I need to investigate further. I *think* I can hear squeaking coming from the lambda count while the speedo is registering but its on the limit of my hearing. I need to try to replicate with a drill with the car static. If my just been either of the speedo cables lubing.

Thank you for the offer Will, much appreciated.

At one time one of the vendors was doing one which was way out of calibration. Not sure what the current thinking is...

Sounds like it’s more likely the dust cap slipping in the hub. I’d check there first, but I’d still go for a disassembly and relube etc and put back together again and see if there’s an improvement. If it’s intermittent then at least your cable hasn’t snapped, but friction maybe increasing, causing the dust shield to be slipped round by the cable instead of holding it still.

I have Harvey's one (specialT auto) and that's way off but works. I believe all the offerings are the same now (as in all off)!

About 14 years ago, we had them remanufactured by Speedograph Richfield
in Nottingham (who made them originally), however they stopped doing them
when the old chap who made them retired, and they also got quite grumpy about
honouring warranties on them if they failed, and basically said they weren't going
to do them anymore.

I am aware of other vendors selling them at various prices since, but I'm not sure
how reliable they have been.
