  Autobox rebuild/replacement
Posted by: SpudMurphy - 04 Oct 2022, 17:33 - Forum: 4 - Transmission - Manual & Automatic - Replies (15)

My car has an autobox problem.
I had my doubts about the integrity of the box when I bought the project car, judging from the fact that the project had a spare governor.

The first indication of my "problem" was when driving it home.
The car had developed a whine and initially I put it down to the silencer box which gave up up the ghost. It drove ok for a few miles, however, I eventually lost drive in all gears and had to be recovered by the AA.

I later found out that by removing fuse 13 I could get drive in 3rd? and reverse. My limited DeLorean knowledge suggested to me a governor problem?

I changed the governor with my spare, tested by electronics guru Tony Cole

Removing the sump, I checked the ohmage on the solenoids and they are fine. I installed a New filter and fresh fillup of 4.5 litres of ATF.

Fuse 13 is fine.

After it was all buttoned up, when I select 1 or 2, there is a high pitched whine with no drive.

When I Select drive or reverse, it drives but just 3rd (I guess) and reverse (see later video).

So I'm thinking that the gearbox is Fuc .....faulty?

The photo shows a small round pin (next to a 10mm spanner) that was stuck to a magnet in the sump.

This is the first auto car I've had in 48 years of driving just manual/stick cars, so this problem is not one I can think through

So my question is .... are there any recommendations for somebody in the UK, that I could drop the box to for a rebuild please?

Edit. I tried to upload a video showing the problem but to no avail.

Here is a link to the video. Cheers

Exclamation 2023 Calendar
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 18 Sep 2022, 17:06 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (21)

Hi all,

its that time again, as you will have seen from DeLorean News Magazine (and possibly the Club
Facebook Page) that I'm on the hunt again for submissions to the 2023 Club Calendar.

I've had some amazing stuff sent over already, but I could do with a few more photos of different
cars to add some variety.

So, go through your photos, and email me over nice landscape photos of your cars!  Ideally without
lots of people in the shots, but if photos were taken at a show I know that can't always be helped.

I need submissions ideally by the end of this month, the printer is on standby to get going as soon as
I collate everything and send it over to him.

Hopefully we can get a price similar to last year, but with everything going up in price for suppliers.... we
shall  have to wait and see.

Email treasurer@deloreans.co.uk please, I look forward to receiving your photos!

Claire

  Crossgate Cable #101363
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 18 Sep 2022, 15:16 - Forum: DeLorean Cars or Parts For Sale or Wanted - No Replies

bit of a long shot, but has anyone got a gear shift crossgate cable, part number 101363?  Mine
is worn and completely shot, it explains why my car always had a challenging gear change!

I can get one from Ed or DMCH, but at a price.....  Anyone on here possibly got one I can purchase?

Auto box oil change and kickdown switch
Posted by: Mich1958 - 03 Sep 2022, 13:00 - Forum: 4 - Transmission - Manual & Automatic - Replies (7)

    Hiya Guys

After a quick conversation with Rich and a few others at the Ambergate meet I decided to dive into the Auto box oil change on my car, Ive posted a few pictures here, opinions welcomed on the condition etc and the full throttle switch as well.

So i drained the oil down and boy did it need doing it smelt vile burnt and very dark in colour im guessing not been changed for a long while.

The filter looked grubby and the magnet had onviousl done its infact the iron fillings gung looked almost alive  Sad

The original sump gasket looked like a home made paper gasket doubled up but the cork and filter looked pretty original ish.

So I left it to drain overnight fitted new cork gasket and filter and new cork gasket (with a smear or RTV) then resealed and filled with nice fresh oil, I have cycled the gearbox through drive 1 2 and reverse ready for a run out this afto.

But while doing this I though I would check on the full throttle kick down switch after a quick conversation with Rich on sunday, I just wanted to check that I was in the right area because at full throttle the switch is miles off of any contact with a lever to activate it  Dodgy

Leaving me a little puzzled.  Huh

  Drivers door lock rod
Posted by: Steveblackshark - 02 Sep 2022, 17:04 - Forum: 8 - Frame / Body / Interior - Replies (5)

Trying to get the door to open I tried altering the rod length to the door lock and managed to shear it off. I have obtained a new rod but after numerous attempts I can’t connect it. Can anyone explain how I would go about it please? There must be a knack to, a knack I clearly don’t have. TIA

  Dating Certificates
Posted by: Chris Williams - 23 Aug 2022, 17:57 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - No Replies

Just to remind everyone due to the massive up-surge in request for DeLorean age dating certificates. These will only be provided to club members free of charge or on payment of a relevant fee. There's been a huge increase in requests for these since our cars becoming/became tax exempt. There are a large number of cars (including my own) that have the incorrect date of manufacture on the V5 and this requires correction in order to become tax exempt. The list of recognized clubs for dating vehicles is available from the DVLA and downloading form V765/1
This is common practice within Classic car owners clubs (infact most charge a fee even for club members, we don't) Hear is a typical example though with a metal plaque:
