  Ground In Relay Box
Posted by: Pilot25dmc - 08 Sep 2006, 19:16 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (8)

Hi all

Bought myself a fancy Alpine powered bass box and need a ground location for it. Before I blow something up can anyone tell me a good location for a ground in the Relay box??

I have to wire the 12v connection straight to the battery and will be using the wire under the gear stick for the switched 12v but cant seem to remember where there is a ground wire around there.

Any help most appreciated.

  white LED festoon bulbs
Posted by: Chris Hawes - 08 Sep 2006, 16:54 - Forum: 3 - Electrical - Replies (6)

I recently fitted a new switch (same as the glove box type) in the engine bay as my alarm system needs it and I am extremely anxious to upgrade the festoon bulb to an LED type due to the many reports of this being a potential fire hazard if left as is.

I am also tempted to convert the other 3 festoon bulbs in the car to LED too (1x luggage compartment, 2x interior).

Does anyone know of a source they can recommend before I revert to a random supplier and unknown quality of goods...

Thanks in advance

  Automatic Transmission Governor Computer
Posted by: Rich Hanlon - 06 Sep 2006, 17:40 - Forum: 4 - Transmission - Manual & Automatic - Replies (24)

Hi all - we all know that A/T governor computers CAN be a pain, and the improvements are well documented, but does anybody have a circuit diagram for the governor computer at all? Does one even still exist?

I fear I may have cooked mine with some over-enthusiastic solenoid testing!

Hi all.

Well, as you probably know me by now, I work for the AA. I can now get "for all delorean members" a better deal than last year for new membership, or renewals at the show. Plus I have now got contacts at Toad,Clifford,Meta,Trackstar,&Road for all your alarms needs. If any of you want one, or want to fit there own, I can get them at a good price. Better than shop prices! So, if anyone would like any, let me know.

  Extended Convex Mirrors

Hi All

Has anyone fitted these mirrors from:-

www.deloreana.com ???

Seem like a very good idea, but in practice do these work well on a LHD car on 'our' side of the road?

Thoughts please Smile

New Windscreen Cracked - Any ideas?
Posted by: Craig Churchill - 04 Sep 2006, 17:32 - Forum: 8 - Frame / Body / Interior - Replies (10)

Hi all!

About 6 weeks ago my screen cracked at the bottom on the drivers side and spread quite rapidly

I had it replaced on my insurance with autoglass exeter (pilkington glass?)

I then garaged the car for 5 weeks as i went away and when i got it out the screen was cracked this time from the top on the passenger side.

I have called Autoglass and they are coming to inspect the car as their workmanship was gauranteed...i am hoping they will agree to replace again FOC!

Any experience of this? Any Ideas?

many thanks

Craig

  Ball joints
Posted by: Emagine - 29 Aug 2006, 15:46 - Forum: 5 - Suspension / Steering - Replies (36)

Afternoon all....

Thought I better post this really just to make everyone aware.

I had a lower front ball joint failure yesterday coming back from the Car show at Knebworth. Luckily for me it was at very low speed and not on a main road. I was just turning into my friends drive when all of a sudden there was a loud bang and the front right of the car dropped followed by a loud scrapping noise as the lower wishbone dropped onto the inside of the wheel rim.

Upon investigation it turns out the ball joint broke just where the thread starts.

The car is now down with DMCL and they're going to do more investigative work. I haven't changed this part since I bought the car and until we get the ball joint out I can't say whether it is an original 25 year old part or not. But I'll keep everyone informed.

I can tell you now it was a proper mission trying to get a Delorean on the back of a recovery truck when you can't push it or lift it! It took nearly 7 hours, 4 AA vehicles, 2 flat beds and one HighAb (lifter) to finally get the car loaded. One thing I did learn. The Delorean is SO back heavy that it can't be lifted by those guys that tow you away if you have parked illegally or have no road tax. Dunno if that is useful to know or not really!

I guess I'm just lucky it didn't happen at higher speed and that I seem to have gotten away with just a bit of rubbing on the inside of the wheel arch and a little damage the wheel rim.

As always, its a good idea with these 25 year old cars to do routine checks on all the critical areas like suspension and steering.

  Turbo Charging or Supercharging?
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 27 Aug 2006, 23:55 - Forum: 1 - Engine - Replies (38)

ok here's one then.

I've never been a fan of turbos, but I'm intrigued by superchargers. As a few of you know, I work for Mercedes, and a few years ago they ditched the idea of turbo charging in favour of superchargers (Kompressor).

Now a Mercedes C180 Kompressor puts out around 170hp, which I think is pretty good for a "1.8" litre engine.

Which got me thinking.....can the PRV be supercharged easily? Is there an 'off the shelf' supercharger or would one have to be specially engineered to fit the car?

Its just an idea at this stage, because I still want to respect my car for what it is, which is a 25 year old GT and not an Impreza Basher....but.....if it was a reliable way of giving the car a bit more acceleration and mid range torque without risking the engine too much or getting too complicated, then it could be an interesting concept.

Anyway, for anyone going to Knebworth tomorrow, see you there about 10am - we're bringing the gazebo, plus hot dogs, tea and coffee, so that's lunch sorted anyway

I've found something interesting in my fuse box compartment.

It's an Archer Noise Suppressor:

does anyone else have one of these installed on their car? This thing has two connectors running from it and is wired directly onto the battery...

I had a scoot around the internet to see if I could find something on Archer's site, but I didn't find anything. Maplin's have something similar:

http://www.maplin.co.uk/free_uk_delivery..._33180.htm

Any ideas? Should I care much?
