80s photo of RHD DeLorean in Ashby-de-la-Zouch
Posted by: Derfel - 20 Mar 2021, 00:36 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (9)

Thought this was an interesting photo of a RHD DeLorean I came across on the Facebook page of where I live.

Shame you cant see the number plate. But looking at it I'm pretty sure it's one of the black interior Wooler Hodec cars.

It's taken of a carnival parade in Ashby-de-la-Zouch.

It looks like the early 80s looking at the fashion and the Austin Princess in the background.

After a bit more research - the passenger in the car - which you can just about see - was Simon Groom of Blue Peter at the time - and he formally opened the carnival with Goldie the dog leading the parade in a DeLorean!  How cool was that!

Update - Found a picture of Simon Groom and Goldie the dog !!

UIJ 197 Cherished Reg (On Retention) Auction ends 28th March
Posted by: Chris Hawes - 18 Mar 2021, 21:55 - Forum: DeLorean Cars or Parts For Sale or Wanted - No Replies

UIJ 197 Cherished Registration Plate (On Retention) – No Reserve!

Details
This unusual dateless plate is Irish based hence the lesser spotted U at the beginning.  This was chosen for an American car as the six characters featuring an I and a 1 made it even more compact for applications where a compact plate is preferable.  The plate is on retention (I have the V778 form) and the winner of the auction will take over ownership.  The plate is Uniform Indigo Juliet 197.

I was using this on VIN 5255 from around 2003 until September 2020 before it reverted back to its ULBxxxW plate.

Auction on eBay runs until 28th March https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164766774015

It would be great for this to be used on another DeLorean...

www.delorean-hire.co.uk domain and website are for sale

http://www.delorean-hire.co.uk for sale

The domain above is for sale and so is the website itself, if of interest.  A fun and creative away to have your car pay for itself.  The only reason I'm selling is that I was approached by an enthusiast of my build (I wasn't even advertising) who made me an offer I couldn't refuse.  After owning VIN 5255 since January 2002, I'm very much look forward to the beast that will replace it.  I've a hot list of candidates to test drive once vaccinations are done and lock down is over with.  Although it is end of an era, I'm very excited about the next chapter.

If you're interested then please email me your suggested offer to chris@delorean-hire.co.uk

Hi folks, I have been watching the forum for a long time and have only made a couple of posts but I thought it would be nice to share photos of my first DMC which will be on its way from east coast US in the next couple of weeks! I am as nervous as I am excited - actutally more excited than nervous but aware of a big undertaking in this car!

The car is certainly going to need a good bit of work and will be a bit of a money pit however her chassis is good and the engine is nearly running well. Loads of work needs done to the interior and although there are no dings or dents it certainly will need some tlc on the exterior.

I have no doubt I shall be seeking advice and help on this car and understand this is going to be a bit of work but I don't care, I am thrilled to finally be fulfilling a 10 year old boys dream. Have a look at the photos below. Any comments welcome positive or negative!

Ps im based in Scotland so hopefully in the future can meet up with some owners once covid eventually blows over.

  VIN 4890
Posted by: Derfel - 08 Mar 2021, 12:03 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (4)

After 20 years of wanting - I finally managed to get myself a DeLorean.
Thanks to Chris Williams for putting me in touch wit the owner - I am now the proud owner of VIN 4890.
The car was imported from Chicago in 2014 by Chris Nicholson and converted to RHD for it's new owner.
Since being handed to the new owner - it only drove 1500 miles and has been off the road for the last 2 and a half years.
So it needed a bit of re-commissioning work.
So far the following work is needed - most issues related to the car not being driven for a long time and stored outside under a car cover.

Fuel pump issues - replaced with new pump, boot, pick up pipe reinforced with stainless spring, new filter, new baffle (original in tank incomplete). Now the car starts on the button.
Steering rack issues - missing bottom bracket retainer - Modified Left hand bracket from a round topped to a square topped one to physically hold the rack in place.
Steering notchy  and really heavy - discovered lower universal joint had nearly fully seized - new one on order.
Clutch slave cylinder not operational - New one on order - not looking forward to fitting this one!
Brake disks - surface rust  - but no pitting, nearly new pads . Hoping a bit of driving will refresh these - otherwise I'll be replacing them
Handbrake poor  - pads look fine so possibly needs adjusting.
Tyres - Front and back tyres cracked - Looking at options for replacement - quite  like the look of Cooper Cobra Radial for the rears. Anyone got them?
Engine - runs a bit rich on start-up - but settles down when warm - Need to look into this.
HVAC - fan runs  - but no air coming into cabin, also AC needs re-gassing. possible vacuum issue?
Craig radio not working - plan to exchange this for a modern DAB model - Controversial !

Overall - the car is in fantastic condition - the frame is absolutely solid, the bodywork panels are in perfect condition - and all the pipes and perishable items have previously all been replaced. It will be a car that I will be proud of when it's all finished.

With the exception of the clutch slave cylinder, I cant believe how easy it is to work on the car. I'm really enjoying the puzzle of problem solving and repairing all the little bits. It's a great distraction from the current situation the country is in.  I have had so many positive chats with general members of the public - who just love the car.

Overall a great experience!

I attach a photos and hope to meet up with you all on one of the club events in the future!

  Clutch Slave Cylinder
Posted by: Derfel - 07 Mar 2021, 18:12 - Forum: 4 - Transmission - Manual & Automatic - Replies (22)

Having fun with my clutch.

Sometimes I cant get the car into gear and other times - the car is in gear but not going anywhere - so pretty sure its the clutch slave cylinder.

I've had a look underneath the car on the drive - but couldn't get near it.

I did read in an old post of someone attacking it from above which might be a bit easier.

Any advice on this would be much appreciated.

Alternatively - anyone know a mobile mechanic DeLorean friendly in Leicestershire??

  DeLorean News, Issue 88
Posted by: Chris Williams - 06 Mar 2021, 10:03 - Forum: Latest DOC News - Replies (2)

It's been a long time coming and apologies that we are running late with issues but issue 88 has been sent out this morning, so should be with most people Mon/Tues. We are aiming to get issue 89 out early May so we would really appreciate some content from our club members. I know we haven't really been able to go anywhere recently so perhaps some articles on what you have done to your car, memories of events past, whatever our club membership are interested so I'm sure would love to read about it.

Lights changes for UK road use
Posted by: lordivanhoe - 05 Mar 2021, 13:29 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (12)

Hi again, everyone.
I'm hoping for an arrival in the coming weeks..!  Fingers crossed.

Obviously I'm aware that once it's here, before hitting the road I'll need (as a minimum) to change some headlights, fit (or make work) some rear fog light(s), and get it MOT'd.  This then enables registration, etc.
I've been perusing the parts threads and can't find anything definitive that is recently posted, so here goes with my questions:

i/ what's the latest (best option/what/where to get/how to fit) on the headlight situation?

ii/ what have people done with regards the fog light thing?

iii/ maybe an answer to ii/: Is the DeLorean Go foglight mod kit at the following link any good / easy to fit?
https://www.deloreango.com/us/uk-fog-lig...n-kit.html

As for the rest, I'll see what my local garage make of it when I roll up for MOT..!
Ooh, one final one:

iv/ do I recall seeing someone advertising for a custom-fit car cover..?

As ever, grateful for any help or suggestions!

Cheers!

Ivan.
