  Request from Silverstone/Motul Oils
Posted by: Guinney1971 - 03 Jun 2021, 12:56 - Forum: DOC National Events, Car shows, AGM's and others - Replies (1)

I've had the following email, is anyone interested in this offer?  It will mean your car being at Silverstone for the full 3 days of the event, but hey if you are getting a free service out of it.....

If you are interested, please PM me and I'll pass your details onto Neil.

Claire Wright
Club Treasurer.

Hi Claire

Motul is one of this year’s Silverstone Classic sponsors. They are looking for a DeLorean which needs a bit of TLC, one that hasn’t run for a while and requires a little nourishing and encouragement with a basic tune-up but not an extensive rebuild.

Motul would like to assist with the following:

  • Oil/fluids change (Engine Oil, transmission oil, Coolant, Brake fluid, etc.) whilst everything is kept tidy and clean in the engine bay with Motul Workshop product (parts cleaner, brake cleaner, etc.)

  • Sparkplugs, sparkplug leads/cables, distributor cap, distributor rotor replacement

  • Air filter change

The DeLorean will need to be on the Motul stand for all three days of this year’s Classic.

Are there any suitable candidates?

Look forward to hearing back from you on this.

Thanks

Neil

Concours d'Elegance event, Bamburgh Castle 3rd July 2021
Posted by: Chris Williams - 26 May 2021, 17:35 - Forum: Northern England - Replies (5)

Dear Sir, Madam, and Car Club representative,

Please excuse my unsolicited e-mail, but I am a regular independent organiser and consultant to a number of celebrated and renowned classic car Concours d'Elegance events, both here in the UK (including the annual Goodwood Cartier 'Style et Luxe' and Salon Privé at Blenheim Palace), as well as numerous international classic vehicle events in countries as diverse as France, Switzerland, Malta and the USA.

I am writing to you and your Car Club (particularly any of your members and colleagues based in the North East of England region) as in just over six weeks time (Saturday 3rd JulyGovernmental on-going Covid-19 regulations willing, and apologies for the short notice!), an exciting and stylish new motoring Concours d'Elegance event will be exclusively staged within the historic grounds of the stunning Bamburgh Castle, standing guard above the spectacular Northumberland coastline in the scenic village of Bamburgh.

The inaugural Bamburgh Castle Concours will feature around 30 vehicles, on static display within the Castle grounds, split into five themed Concours classes, broken down by country (these being British [possibly split by sports cars and saloons], French, German, Italian and American vehicles) with around six cars per class, spanning a wide range of eras (from pre-war to modern classics) and vehicle types, as per the more detailed makes and models below. During the afternoon, an exciting classic rally car tour and display, supported by the local North East prestige new car dealer group JCT600, will culminate at Bamburgh Castle to join the Concours cars and activities at the event.

If you, or any of your Club members and colleagues, would like to enter a suitable classic vehicle for consideration for the first Bamburgh Castle Concours, free of charge, in the first instant please kindly send me a photograph and details of the car by email (to garyxonautomotive@gmail.com), and the Bamburgh Castle Concours selection committee will assess the vehicle and its suitability for this exclusive event, and then get back to each applicant with more details.

Free to enter for each of the selected Concours cars (with entry including a minimum of two Castle entry tickets, refreshments and lunch, with participants free to tour the Castle grounds and take a relaxing walk on the beach), Concours vehicle entrants will be asked to make staggered arrival at the Castle from 10am onwards, with all Concours display vehicles in place by 11am please, and prize giving and Concours vehicle exits permissible from 5:30pm onwards, with the added bonus of free entrance ticket(s) to a live, one-off rally forum with rallying legends Jimmy McRae, Lewis Aitkin-Walker, Rosemary Smith and famed racing driver Barry Lee in the evening. A cashless pay bar and award-winning fish and chip supper will be available during the late afternoon/evening for sustenance whilst listening to what promises to be a fascinating and fun informal live Forum chat; the perfect end to a perfect day out surrounded by interesting and beautiful cars in an exceptional setting.

In addition to the competition cars (in action and on static display), classic cars and supercars, as already mentioned, a key attraction at Bamburgh Castle on Saturday 3rd July will be the exclusive Concours d'Elegance, with the five dedicated Concours classes having an international flavour, being broken down to interesting classic cars representing the following countries and local marques, for example:

-British Marques: (e.g. Rolls-Royce, Bentley, Jaguar, Daimler, Aston Martin, Rover, Triumph, Jensen, Bristol, Lotus, Alvis, MG, AC, Mini, Austin, Morgan, Morris, Rootes Group, Austin-Healey, Reliant, Armstrong Siddeley, Land Rover, Marcos, Vauxhall, Riley, TVR, Jowett, Panther, Ginetta, etc.)
-German Marques: (e.g. Porsche, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Opel, NSU, DKW, Borgward, Messerscmitt, Glas, Ford D, Adler, Maybach, etc.)
-Italian Marques: (e.g. Ferrari, Maserati, Alfa Romeo, Fiat, Lancia, De Tomaso, ISO, Abarth, Innocenti, Autobianchi, Cisitalia, etc.)
-French Marques: (e.g. Citroen, Renault, Peugeot, Bugatti, Alpine, Matra, Panhard, Simca, Delage, Amilcar, Delahaye, Talbot, Facel Vega, etc.)
-American Marques: (e.g. Cadillac, Pontiac, Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Lincoln, Studebaker, AMC, Plymouth, Nash, Oldsmobile, Buick, Chrysler, Edsel, etc.)

Nice, original and presentable examples of any suitable vehicles from the above guidance list will be very welcome to apply for a potential Bamburgh Castle Concours entry free of charge, with all vehicle owners being advised if their car(s) has/have been gratefully accepted or declined for this exclusive motoring event.  As previously stated, as well as receiving a number of free entrance passes into the event, all Concours participants will be provided with lunch and refreshments on the day, plus a prize for the overall coverted Concours 'Best of Show' winner.

If your vehicle is accepted for the inaugural Bamburgh Castle Concours, finalised information, including the passes and Joining Instructions, will be emailed to you ahead of the event on Saturday 3 July 2021* (*Covid-19 restrictions willing)

Thank you for your time, interest, and for helping to spread the word about this exciting new Concours event in the North East of England with your car club colleagues (especially those based geographically not too far from Bamburgh). I very much look forward to receiving and reviewing all of the potential vehicle entries from you and your car club colleagues and friends.

Kind regards,

Gary Axon

  VIN No. 1867
Posted by: Justwatching - 25 May 2021, 22:13 - Forum: Members Cars - Replies (142)

Purchased 1867 in the UK. June '81 build. Black interior, automatic transmission. It's my first DeLorean and generally a nice example, but there's room for improvement which I'll document here.

As you can see, my cat immediately set about exploring the car and left a lovely set of paw prints. This brings me onto my first question - how does one clean a DeLorean? Usual car cleaning products or something different?

Long time fan, new owner! Only took me 10 years...

Manual, grey interior originally imported into the UK in 2002 and after a brief stint in Belgium it's now back in the UK and living with me.
Car is in relatively good condition, runs well with 25,000 miles on the clock.

Few cosmetic internal things to replace (door-strap etc) and a new set of fuel lines to go on to start with...

DeLorean Experience Rides @ Shenington Gliding Club, Oxon/ Warks
Posted by: Rich Hanlon - 15 May 2021, 20:36 - Forum: General Discussions on the DOC / Car / Company / JZD - Replies (2)

Hello all,

A few of you on here may know that as well as fiddling around with DeLoreans I am also doing a spot of learning to fly and glide, as time and Covid regulations permit.

A friend and colleague has asked me to help with a 'Crowdfunding' fundraiser for Shenington Gliding club (close to the British Motor Museum at Gaydon) where I had some of my first flights from on a works flying experience weekend. This is on the boundary between Warwickshire and Oxfordshire.

I'm offering DeLorean Experience rides as rewards for Crowdfunding donations which have been launched to keep the not-for-profit club afloat.

Due to the restrictions imposed by COVID regulations, this club is at imminent risk of closure which is a great shame as this is a voluntary organisation offering low cost flying training to young and old alike. Most future pilots have taken their first steps towards flying professionally from small rural airfields like Shenington.

So for anyone yet to buy a DeLorean of their own, or who is considering a purchase and would like a try-before-you-buy , or who would like to treat a friend or family member who would like a good look around and a chance for a ride out and any photo opportunities in my newly restored #6126, all while supporting a good cause, then I am offering them as part of this fundraiser. The rides are priced at £120 along with photo opportunities and an 'access all areas' look around the car. I will be based around the airfield all day on the chosen date.

For clarity, all proceeds go to the fundraising effort and I will be providing the car, time and fuel all at my own expense, PLUS making a donation of my own. I WILL NOT be making anything on the experience rides.

Details of the fundraiser are at:

https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/save-sheni...iding-club

Pick the DeLorean ride under the 'Rewards’ section

VIN №6126

Additionally there are lots of other rewards available for various donations including Vintage and Light Aircraft air experience flights, trial glider flights, one day gliding courses and so on, which may be of interest to some members on here.

My first glider flight, 2019.

In fact a weekend gliding is something I have actually been considering arranging as a DOC event for some time. It is low cost, great fun, and promotes great teamwork and camraderie.  (please let me know if you would fancy that, anyone, and I can look to arrange this for later in the year)

Thanks all for reading, Rich

  DeLorean Key Cutting Service.
Posted by: Chris Williams - 15 May 2021, 16:47 - Forum: DeLorean Cars or Parts For Sale or Wanted - No Replies

DeLorean Key Cutting Service.

We are now able to cut key blanks for your DeLorean either by copying your original or from just a code if you have no keys at all. (This assumes your locks have not been changed)!

I cannot do this for every vehicle so a little history on keys for a DeLorean.

When the cars left the factory they had a little metal tag that was stamped with the key code, this code was also on a little sticker on the underside of the steering column canopy (picture below). This has often been removed, become faded or simply may have fallen off. The very early cars up to Vin 4200 had a two key system with the door key being different from the ignition key, the ignition key also did the cubby box and fuel cap. Usually the code if it exists is for the door lock only. On Vin’s prior to #4200 the code either on the sticker or underneath the drivers headliner should start with WR and consist of 4 digits usually starting in a 3 or 5 Such as WR3876 this is the code for the door lock ONLY. Usually there would be no code shown for the ignition lock. Clearly as the years have past they may have been changed to a one key system as locks have been changed.
On later cars (after VIN #4200) then these should all be a one key system with the key code underneath the drivers headliner (or on the sticker under the steering column canopy) and the code will start with a ‘K’ or a ‘7’ and end with an ‘X’ such as in the picture below K7334X (these are of my car that’s had a lock change)
Again I stress the coding system only works on the assumption the ignition barrel has not been changed/the door locks have not been changed/the doors have not been changed!
This service Is provided to help all DeLorean owners in the UK , this is done as a non for profit service however clearly cost’s have to be covered. Keys will only be sent out by ‘signed for’ service in secure packing, proof of ownership may well be required if non DOC members/or any lost key situations.
The key blanks are just plain key blanks with a plastic head as pictured below. I can cut onto the reproduction DMC key blanks also, however I would suggest this is only done when simply copying a key or we try a cheaper plain blank first to ensure that the ‘cut’ is correct. These can be bought from your favourite seller.
To take advantage of this service please email: secretary@deloreans.co.uk with your requirements and we can take it from there.
In summary:

Early cars, door only  = WR5XXX or WR3XXX
Later cars, doors and Ignition = K7XXX
Or I can simply copy your existing key onto a plain key blank or repro DMC key blank.
