Chris

I've mentioned this to all of the prospective insurer's and quite frankly it wasn't making any difference.

I've (finally) had word back from Lancaster after they needed to discuss with their underwriters. £398. A not so funny JOKE. They were the dearest out of all. So much for the hold out because they said they might be able to beat the Hagerty quotation.

So, I guess, Hagerty it is then. £215. Only insured at my parents. So next year, if I want to bring LEX down to Rugby, I either have to risk it, and be uninsured with her sitting in my driveway, behind a 6' tall locked gate, under 24/7 home CCTV surveillance, or just randomly park her in the centre of town at the side of the road, and be fully insured, but risk more damage from passers by, other cars, and the jealous mischievous types, just because the she would then be parked at least the minimum distance of 1 mile away from my house in Rugby to prove that she is not being kept there. All of this, only between the hours of 6am and 10pm, and at all other times, if I want to remain insured, she HAS to be parked in my parents garage.

Ridiculous.

Mine was £325 this year with Footman James.

I could have got it with another insurer for £298 but that was capped at 5000 miles, so for the sake of £30 extra, and the fact I use my car very regularly, I went with FJ who offer unlimited mileage.

I would imagine the high price for me is because of my age.

Yep, ditto darren. Scimitar and the D are less than 300 quid.

Caveats: garaged, milage limited to 5000 and 3000 respectively, and use of another car.

Think i can beat everyone on rip off, i had to pay £630 for the year through Adrian Flux for fully comp, 3000 miles and agreed value of 25k.
But then again I'm 24 so in a way lucky as lots of companies wouldn't cover me at all. Had one quote of £2100. Shock
Think it will halve for me next year though!

I've been with Footman James since I've bought my car (I was 25 when I bought it), they quoted me £302, with agreed value an unlimited mileage.

In comparison Adrian Flux wanted somewhere near the £630 figure you quoted above. Adrian Flux have always quoted me way higher than anyone else, the club discount seems to make naff all difference.

Thanks for the tip! That sounds a lot better. Will try footman james next time then but unfortunately they wouldn’t insure me being under 25. Luckily for the last year or so the car’s been off the road so have only had to have basic fire and theft insurance.

It's that time of the year already - I've had my renewal come through from Footman James, and wasn't particularly impressed with their 18% increase.

After some calling around I will be switching to RH Specialist Insurance as recommended by Darren. Limited to 5000 miles, but retained salvage and agreed value. £306.47 which is only a few quid more than I paid the first year I had the car.

When I break the 30 y/o barrier in a couple of years I may even see it dip below £300 - I live in hope.

I've just renewed my second term with RH. They underwrite through Equity Red Star (like Adrian Flux) and are offering me the same great benefits I initially had from Adrian Flux years ago but as time went on Adrian Flux starting stripping away the benefits and hiking up the price....

RH didn't even charge me an admin fee for changing my home address last year.

Personally I think the club should drop ties with Adrian Fuxed and see if RH can some how offer better deals via the club.....

To be fair, looking at the number of policies taken out, Hegertys do seem to be insuring a lot more club members than any other insurers (at the moment) from the ones that supply numbers or do club verification checks. Having watched this over the last few years it does swing from one insurer to the other (I guess depending on how keen they are that year!) As we all know insurance is a fickle thing and we all have to shop around!

Out of interest Darren, does this mean your paying £100.00 for the DeLorean or for all the cars covered in the multi car policy? Or is this say 10 cars covered at roughly £100 each therefore costing you £1000? Only ask as I pay over £200 a year, (middle aged fat bloke living in what's classed as insurance safe area, car garaged, 5000 mile limit, no breakdown cover) For the life of me I will never understand why insurance varies so much

I have always been suspicious of such policies as once you are roped in, they could just bang the price up on renewal and then you have all the aggro of sorting out, separating NCB's etc.

But having never actual bought one, I may be talking through my hat!

I'm voting RH too. I started out in 2006 with AON private clients, which became part of Footman James around 2009. Premiums were higher and you couldn't remove the breakdown cover like you could with AON. Payment options were not so flexible either. AON were happy to take a small deposit and settle the balance within 30 days without charge. Footman James want all up front or an installment plan which costs more in the long run, especially if the quotes are high to start with...

Let's just say that my D and my Fiesta XR2 would have cost £464 with FJ
And that's with agreed values from 2011 of £20,500 and £3500

RH is £296 for both, increased agreed values on both... Free breakdown, all the bells and whistles like FJ but the option to buy back the salvage.

It's worth shopping around and as you don't have no claims discount on classic policies, it's only new agreed value declarations needed.

You do need to have a daily driver on normal insurance with them or another company though otherwise I guess premiums would be higher!

I also tried Adrian Flux and Hagerty too. Not much between them and FJ.

RH were the hands down winners by far!
