Multi car policy with RH Specialist insurance
Out of interest Darren, does this mean your paying £100.00 for the DeLorean or for all the cars covered in the multi car policy? Or is this say 10 cars covered at roughly £100 each therefore costing you £1000? Only ask as I pay over £200 a year, (middle aged fat bloke living in what's classed as insurance safe area, car garaged, 5000 mile limit, no breakdown cover) For the life of me I will never understand why insurance varies so much
Chris

Hi Chris,

When I first got my De in 2007 I already had a multicar policy with RH (have done since about 1995) I called and added the De fully comp onto the policy I had already. Cost about £60 for the remaining 10 months of the year the policy had left to run. At renewal back in 2008 it was about £80. Today its about £97 a year fully comp with all the whistles and bells thrown in.
I know this as each year I ask for a breakdown per car (I have 8 cars on the policy) at renewal time. I only do this as sometimes my daily driver (previously Audi S4, Cayenne Turbo S and currently a V70) is MORE expensive via RH than any other broker. RH specialise in Classic cars so are more reluctant to insure the modern rubbish. I just put my daily drivers on the same policy for easy and simplicity. I moved the Cayenne Turbo S off the policy last year as it was 100% cheaper through another insurance company via Porsche Club GB than RH.
As a rule RH REALLY LIKE cars over 10 years old, and for some reason the more obscure the better. Value plays little difference in premium. For example a £30K 7 year old Porsche cost 5 x more to insure than a 70 year old £200K Bentley. It doesn't make sense other than when you analize the "risk"

I suppose that makes sense in a strange logical way. What is Chav Asbo car thief going to nick.....70 year old vintage car that he wouldn't have a clue how to start or a desirable Porsche that he can joy ride and break for spares etc.
Also statistics show that the Porsche would most likely to be driven fast and suffer damage.
Ironically my ex-wife used to work for BDML Connect a broker to the trade that underwrote new cars. (You know the 3 years free insurance deal on a new car, from age 17 to 80) On average Vauxhall etc used to pay £100 per policy regardless of age or history of the person who bought the car and got free insurance. Most worrying is that in the insurance "risk" assessment a drink drive conviction gives you a discount on your premium!
This is based on the historical data showing that you are less likely to re-offend. Less likely than some "new" offender is to being convicted of drink driving. Morally however they load the policy, when in reality they know they have the upper hand and lower risk.
