Well, The Twin Turbo car at the moment is not putting out anywhere near what it should. It's putting out less that the Renault 25 Turbo the engine was rebuilt as.

It makes lots of noise that gives you the impression it's fast but my old D could keep up with it.

Infact it's slower that Stuart's "Maddie" with a Stage II engine. Maddie is the fastest PRV engined D in the UK. Maybe Chris's new Stage II will be quicker.

I feel quite sorry for Rich, he's put years into that car, and it was quite unique before being the only Island (?) Twin Turbo in the UK.

I really hope it gets sorted, so that him and Helen can enjoy the car properly Smile

There a are a few problems with turbo conversions, as i have found out, firstly the compression ratio will only allow up to 10lbs on a standard engine, but around 7lbs really is the max. but then the injectors will pop out, so you will need a bracket to hold them in. Also the lamda sensor causes all sorts of problems which on mine is nearly sorted out at last, with the help of Nick T, and with the single pipe mine does sound different

Interesting about the injectors popping out - never thought of that.

What is it that's the weakest link then in the engine when people talking about internals? is it the pistons that tend to go when boost exceeds tolerance?

To be continued
When we get chance we are gonna have a rolling road session, I am stunned at the difference the stage 2 has made to the car, more so at lower revs which has surprised me a bit. Still to sort out a few issues with the idle and setting it up, just need a bit of time really.

Thats what I understood one of the main problems to be when I was looking at doing my car.
That and the cost involved of specialist fabrications of manifolds/exausts etc etc. Plus origionality/resale value.
I dont know what kind of H/P a car like T Tonys puts out with his turbo on or what the quoted fig was when they were available as kits when new. I think it was Nick T that told me that a basic 260 engine which really is what mine is now (apart from performance cams) was about 150 H/P so that in it's self is a fair jump from a stock D, however I'm sure a performance exaust would help even more.

I reckon mine should be about 140 at the rear wheels maybe a little more i hope, but we will see, just a little more tinkering with timing and a possible second injector TT

Hi,

I don't know if a Belgian D can join this topic but I own a D with a Stage 2 engine and exhaust. We measured 200 HP on a fully alligned testbank. Ed Uding has my specs. So if the twin turbo isn't working properly, I could beat it. Specially in the 'lower' RPM regions. My torque peaks between 2100 - 4500 RPM.

I didn't had the chance to test the top speed yet, but i pushed the car to 5500 rpm in fifth gear.

Dan was driving behind me on the last day in Ireland before we went to Bushmills. He knows about it ^^

I'm planning to install the Stage 3 upgrade also.
