'NEW' 24 mile DeLorean for auction 6th June 2015. Brooklands
#1
Dear Chris,

Good morning….I'm PR for the classic car auction specialist, Historics at Brooklands.

We have a major sale of 160 classic motorcars at Brooklands Museum on Saturday, June 6th, and amongst them is this 1981 DeLorean…with just 24 delivery miles on the clock and having been stored for a total of 31 years

Herewith reference to the car:
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... 2.aspx?p=3

Originally supplied to the USA, this unique vehicle is the last DeLorean DMC built in 1981. It is unique in that it only has delivery miles on the clock, a total of 24 miles. It has never been registered or driven on the road. It certificate of origin paper work shows that it was transferred by the DeLorean Motor Company to the DeLorean dealer in Newark, New Jersey USA on June 10th 1982 where it stayed locked away at the dealership until the present owner purchased it in November 2000 and shipped it to the UK where it was again locked away and stored in a warm dry garage for the next 15 years. The car is so unique it still has the factory fitted delivery and EPA stickers attached to the front windscreen. The vehicle comes complete with the original battery, tyres, wheels, owner's manual, tool kit etc. The car has had no modifications except to keep the fluids and oils fresh and the tyres maintained at factory pressures. This DeLorean is supplied with the certificate of origin, the C61 BTI customs form showing the BTI reference number needed for the NOVA certificate and a copy of the shipping invoice. This is an icon of the 1980s and probably the only DMC12 with delivery mileage in the world; a unique opportunity to purchase what can only be describe as motoring art.

For a bit more info on the car there is another thread about it hear: viewtopic.php?f=20&t=5752

Oh Dear, if the new owner wants to drive and actually enjoy the car, they will have to throw a lot of money into it
New tyres, New Battery, New fuel system, hydraulics, headliner, electric updates...

Unfortunately this car will be bought as an 'investment' like a hundred year old bottle of wine and stored away in the dark for another 15 years. Let's hope not. It's a classic museum piece and that's probably where it should go. On display as the last 81 DeLorean.

I'm guessing (though there is no mention of it) if they have kept the fluids fresh then the car 'may' have been regularly run so the fuel system/hydraulics 'may' actually be OK. Shame they don't make any mention of if it actually runs/drives. I have asked about this so I will update when I get the info. Though how a 30+ year old battery is still OK is beyond me. Don't make em like they used to!

Hear you go:
Hi Chris,

Answer is as follows…

Since the car has been in the UK, the owner - who is authoritative - has regularly turned it over without compression (plugs out) and has changed fluids. It has never been registered or driven but for the 24 miles in its earliest days.

Hope this helps.

The car and documentation can be fully inspected pre-sale on 4th or 5th June at Historics at Brooklands, prior to sale on June 6th

Best wishes,
MIchael

Sold for a tad over 57K be interesting to see where it ends up. There was a lot of publicity from the auctioneers regarding this car in the classic car press that I'm sure helped the price.
