Project Cars @ BHCC
#61
Glad they wiped the mold off the bottom of the car.

It has just dawned on me that most of the BHCC cars have DOA window stickers, and it's clearly been a while since any of them turned a wheel. I wonder if they have got hold of an old DOA members list and they are contacting all the California owners, seeing who still has one parked in a garage somewhere. They pay the older owner $10k, say, to help tem out, and then double their money when they list it.

Certainly a good question; mine (from them) was a Hawaii car; plenty of interior sun damage (like this one) but not a California car. Shouldn't take much to find out though. Very few have been what I'd call "reliable runners". They might run, but would you trust it?

Mine is anything but. It probably would if it had a fuel pump and new tank (and lines, and.... blah) but I'm saving an old car, so I don't really care. It'll run eventually, and like new (or better).

It's actually nice there are so many popping up for reasonable "restoration" money. The frame on this one is likely suffering the usual leakage rot, so will need some work.

Two more projects now on sale one at $16750 http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1982-...c-5056.htm  think that may be to much for this. This one however at $18750 may not be a bad buy: http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1982-...c-5047.htm

I don't think there is much to choose between them.

The first, the AUTO looks less 'mucked about' with and the second one, the MANUAL, ( my personal preference for transmission ) looks as though it been mucked about with…I never like to see plug leads off, could have had the spark plug removed for a long time..that could be serious. I don't like the damp looking carpets either.

But if either were here in the UK, I recon they'd be snapped up in hours!

Chris

Someone is doing a little speculative craigslisting, I think

http://boston.craigslist.org/gbs/cto/5323399574.html

$40k for the same car that is still listed at BHCC for half that.

Or could just be a straightforward scam.

You'd have thought that they would have changed the headlights before re-lising it!

And another at $21k: looks OK (actually quiet good) on top, shame the chassis is shot; http://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1981-...c-5104.htm

Apart from the chassis, the interior looks very odd. Almost as its its been flooded and then had a very big dose of heavy duty cleaning chemicals applied. I've never seen an interior like it! Or such a brash and tasteless engine bay….but that could easily be rectified.

It's almost like it is just a really filthy tan carpet, which is obviously unusual.

Initially I just thought it was really faded, but it is even tan up under the dash, so perhaps the PO bought one of DMCH's coloured carpets and then transported sheep in it or something.

EDIT, looks like the dash and binnacle had been recovered at some point, whish might tie into my "new tan carpet" theory where the PO has refurbished the interior, and the engine bay to a certain extent, but ignored the frame.

I think you are right Dermot.

Never a smart idea to give priority to carpets and fancy hoses …….over the structural integrity of the car!  Sad

Unfortunately though I see this everyday, people running around on illegal/bald/dangerous tyres because they cant afford to change them (or don't check/notice) but can fit very loud stereo's/boom boxes/fancy lighting Etc. Though to be fair most people don't check the underside of a car anyway so the owner may not have noticed how bad it was in this case. It looks as if the complete side of that chassis section has gone. be interesting to see a close up of what's left picture wise. Be a great picture to use as an example of what brake fluid can do to the chassis (epoxy)
