LED'S for amber side marker/indicator (after mod)
#1
After nearly 5.5yrs ownership I'm embarrassed to admit I'm only now getting around to replacing my Amber markers/indicators incandescent bulbs with LED's.

My question now is, has anyone out there actually done this successfully?!

The problem is, because of the mod to allow them to act as indicators as well as repeaters means that current is switched to act in both directions. LED's only work with current in one direction! So if I want my Amber markers to work in both functions, I have to drive around with my first stage side lights switched on all the time. Off means you get markers, but off instead of flashing as indicators!?

How can you ever use LED's in these holders with a 100% working capability the same as you get with incandescents without rewiring the car and introducing interposing relays etc?!

I've had to put back my incandescents again. ...The rear markers are fine with LED'S.

Chris, you won't be happy with the light they give off anyway.

As you only use your markers with engine running, and probably sides and tails drawing power too, there's little point.

I have a full set and instead of a nice glow from your markers, you get a spot in the middle of the lens and little light in the rest.

Similar issue with door markers unless you buy multi LED red and Amber ones. The white looks cack!

I have tried and failed with this also, and with some exceptions have to agree that good old fashioned bulbs seem to work best in our cars. I only use LED's in the rear markers, tail lights, all interior illumination, doors.

I bought red and amber versions of these for the side markers:

(Not the exact same sellers versions in each case)

Although I've removed the amber ones again, the red ones look ok, especially since I've put them in at a diagonal angle to better spread the light from them. See what you think of these...
