Help with finding some parts for Easter engine strip down

hi guys,

I'm planning on stripping down the engine on my car and cleaning out the VOD, treating the valve covers and replacing some stuff. I just need some help with collecting some of the parts. I've managed to get hold of a complete gaskets and washers (thanks to Admin bloke for pointing me in the direction of the Volvo gasket set). I've got a rotor and distributor cap as well, plus some spark plugs, but I'm missing a few bits and can't seem to find them:

I like to replace the HT leads but can't seem to to locate the right ones.

Which oil filter is best? I fitted one from the club last year but the shop seems to be out of them this year.

Silicone hoses. The kit from delorean.eu seems very pricey for a few silicone hoses. Can you buy a length of the stuff and cut it down, or am I being stupid there?

Finally, once I've stripped everything down I was thinking of either powder coating or painting the valve covers, W pipe, intake manifold and fuel injection unit. Which process do people recommend? The powder coating seems like the best idea, but is it appropriate for all these parts? If spray paint then what do people recommended?

Loads of questions, but I'll be making some videos of it all for my facebook page and blog so everyone can see the (hopefully) successful process. Big Grin

I think the proper (Bougicord?) leads are difficult to get hold of now, this may be the correct set: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugot-505-Gt ... 439wt_1111 but then I dont think the lead from the coil to dizzy is correct in this set?

Silicone hose, certinally the ones to the top of the pump are pre-bent, I know the full kit is expensive but it may pay to get a full kit and use what you need and at least you will be able to do the rest as required? I cant see no reason why you cant get everything powdercoated but I would not do the fuel injection unit (black metering head) due to the o rings, but I guess you mean the silver bit it fixes to!

Thanks Chris,

Ordered a Mahle OC460 oil filter, which I think matches the one I used before. As for the HT leads is it the ones that match the Volvo 760 that I need?

Yeah, I think I'm going to investigate having the parts powder coated. Hopefully they'll all come off easily. Shock

I wouldn't go near those ebay ht leads, you need these...

Replacing the HT leads is a job I need to get around to doing on my car.

My advice:

Don’t powdercoat the inside of the rocker covers. You can get great results using alloy wheel spray paint and it won’t end up with the glossy finish that a powdercoat gives.

Don’t use rocker cover gaskets, just use a bead of silicone (Later PRVs were assembled like this in Douvrin)

Do use genuine Bougicord leads if you can find them. There’s a whole load of mininformation out there about resistances, power and wotnot, do not be seduced. The set Chris linked to above is not correct, that’s for the later PRV engine. The pre-83 Renault 25 (NOT turbo) had K-Jet and a long coil lead, I think the Volvo ones is too short (?)

(Boigicord literally translates as “spark wire”, gawd bless the French and their “does what it says on the tin” naming convention…)

I'd go with stu's suggestion.

I bought a different set to start with from a vendor 3 years ago and the lengths were wrong and the caps were rubbish.

I bought the ones stu suggested and they were identical to what I originally took off only new. They were also cheaper than the rubbish I previously bought but didn't realise these were available.

Thanks everyone. I've ordered the ones Stu linked to. They look pretty good, and should prove so much better than the old ones. That, the rotor and cap should make for a bit of a change to the engine.

Does anyone have a list of the bolts and their sizes that need to be replaced? Best get them ordered before I start work, and replace them using loads of ani-seize. Smile

Can't wait to get started. My first engine strip down. Daunting, but exciting.

How far you going with it mate? Engine out or in situ?
u doing the head gaskets?

good choice for the leads lol I've fitted several of those volvo ones no problems.
not a bad price too...

I also got the 50/50 saab brake master cylinder from their sister company, partsforsaabs
also keenly priced.
