Delorean DMC-12 commemorative poster
#1
Hi everyone

Chris has kindly offered me the opportunity to upload this thread which will outline a proposal for the creation of a unique commemorative poster of the Delorean DMC-12. My name is Tony and as a hobby I run a small automotive illustration company called Autotecart based in Swansea, South Wales. Autotecart specialises in the production of limited edition prints of some of the most rare and sought after sports, supercars and motorsport vehicles from the past to the present day. We also produce products to be used as auction material to raise money for charitable organisations around the UK through fund raising days that motorsports organisations and motorclubs hold throughout the year. Information on this can be found on the website at www.autotecart.com and our facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/pages/Autotecar ... 1752041290 The YouTube clip link shows Prodrive's Ben Sayer auctioning off the Prodrive P2 poster I created during their charity open day a few years ago to assist in raising money for the Oxford Children's Hospital appeal fund. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcJOvVLWtvs&feature=plcp

As part of our growing list of supercars that Autotecart are planning to create posters of the Delorean DMC-12 is one that has been on the list for a while now, but tracking down a mint unmolested example here in the UK has proved to be an extremely difficult task indeed. So with the help of the Delorean owners club forum I can secure the assistance of one of the members to help in the creation of this unique commemorative print of the DMC-12. A initial concept visual is shown below of what the intended Delorean poster will look like and will be created in the same rendering style as the samples displayed on our website. The final poster artowrk will be sized to 555x370mm and contained within the print will be a photographic library of the owners car displayed down each side of the poster, a side view photo-realistic rendering of the DMC-12 which will form the centre piece of the poster artwork, a written specifications and historical record and in the top right corner a photo-realistic rendering of the 'Back to the future' version of the DMC-12 too.

What will I need to create the poster?
In order to produce al the poster that I produce the process begins with the assistance of a kind hearted owner of the sports or supercar we are intending to use and all I would require is for the owner to give up around 90 minutes of their time for me to produce a photoshoot of their DMC-12 which will form the foundation for the artwork. The images that I will take will be used for the photographic library down each side of the poster and the creation of the side view rendering of the DMC-12. The images that appear on the concept image shown above are taken off the internet and are copyrighted to the photographer concerned, so I will need to produce my own photographs in order to secure the images that will be displayed on the artwork as I have a specific idea on how I would like the photographs of the car to taken and appear on the poster artwork. A line drawing has already been produced which appears on the dummy, but I am sure you can imagine what a fully rendered side view of the Delorean DMC-12 will look like instead of this and similar to the recently completed rendering of the Ferrari California I created a few weeks ago. I am in the process of creating a written specifications and historical record of the DMC-12 which will appear on the poster and I will also create a the 'Back to the Future' version which will appear in the top right corner or the print. If your car has a unique limited edition number or plaque, I will reproduce this and place it on your print which will make it very personal to you. I have secure numerous detailed images for this rendering from a recent visit to Universal in Florida but I still need to create a road car in order to produce the film car variant.

As outlined above, in order for me to create any of the posters that I produce, I will need to produce a 90 minute photoshoot of the car I would like to produce a poster of and this is conducted close to each owners home to reduce a unnecessary amount of mileage placed on each car. The process of taking all the pictures I will require is hassle free as I do all the work and all I would require is for the owner to manouver their cars into the next image in the photoshoot sequence. Examples of the photoshoots I have done can be found here http://www.autotecart.com/photoshoot_into2.html which will give you a very good idea of the high standard of imagery produced from each shoot and there are links from this section of the website to the subsequent posters that have been produced along with each owners feedback of the process involved in achieving the final products. I am prepared to travel far and wide to locate the best example of car possible to appear on the print and the red MG SV-R was taken in Edinburgh and was done in a 2 day turn around from start to finish from driving from Swansea to Scotland and back so travelling the length and breadth of Britain to secure the best cars is not a problem.

What does the owner get in return?
All our clients are extremely important to us at Autotecart, as without them giving up their time to assist us in allowing us permission to photograph their cars, then our products would not exist. With this in mind, every owner who allows us to photograph their cars will receive a free complimentary photo CD containing around 300 high resolution images for them to use at their leisure and on completion of the final artwork, each owner will also receive a free complimentary print displaying their very own car for them to proudly display on the wall of their home or office. Should the Delorean club in the UK have a association with a charitable concern and are looking for unique quality auction material to be used for their fund raising activities, this poster will be a superb product and as has happened in the past will no doubt raise a lot of money for the charity with which you are associated with.

As I create most of my photoshoots during the spring and summer months, it is only a couple of months before the spring is upon us and hopefully you could allow me to do the photoshoot of your DMC-12 to begin the process of creating this unique piece of artwork for you. I normally do all the photoshoots on a weekend so that I do not interfere with the weekly schedule of owners who are normally working during the week. Prior to securing a day and time to meet each owner, I also come up many hours before the arranged day to do a recci of the locality to find a suitable location to position the car ready for the photoshoot then contact the owner and we both meet at that location from which the photographic process begins. I am sure that I could locate a national park or nice locations in which to place the car and create a memorable photoshoot of your Delorean DMC-12 supercar.

I am extremely excited about the possibility of creating a poster of the Delorean DMC-12 and with the invaluable assistance of a DMC-12 owner off this forum, this unique product can become a printed reality. I can be contacted on the details listed below and hopefully we can arrange a time and place in the near future to photograph your car and produce a superb piece of automotive memorabilia for you to enjoy. Should there be enough interest in the project, I may be able to offer the print as a multi copy version, but that would depend on interest in the final result which I am sure will look pretty neat indeed.

Thanks for listening to my proposal and look forward to meeting up with a DMC-12 owner in the near future.

this would probably be one for Ben Lee Matthews, as he's based in South Wales and his car is a corker.

You can PM him on here, he's 'The Original MrP'

....will the poster be illustrating/highlighting the differences in the built cars over the period of production? i.e. bonnet style, wheel colour, door pull strap inclusion etc etc?

...It might be quite good to have a few cars, covering the differences between the released builds if so.

The side view rendering and the photographs down each side will reflect the car in which I use for the photoshoot. Maybe a late version will be better as it will highlight the last variant of the DMC-12 before production ended. The NSX shown below was a 2005 specification car which illustrated the last of the NSX cars before production ended in 2005. I can always include the various alterations to the cars spec in the written copy which I will upload for the experts to scan over.

Yes I did point this out to Tony and that probably everyone had one so the market may be limited, but I suppose there is always new people coming in to the DeLorean scene.

Yes, Chris did point that one out to me during my initial email and its an excellent product too, but the Delorean is a car that is one that I have always wanted to create a poster of to add to the other specialised cars I am in the process of creating and one lucky owner will also get a free copy of it displaying their very own car on it.

Hi Tony...

How are you?

Firstly, thanks to Claire for putting my car forward....

My car is currently undergoing some winter refurbishment but I am now on the few top steps of the ladder for getting it finished.... But the work is mainly in the car... not the exterior.

Tony, You are more than welcome to use my car for the poster...

Its a 1982 (83 Spec) with flat hood, grey interior, manual transmission, silver wheels as opposed to grey, and a silver side stripe opposed to the black... 83 models had a finer grain on the stainless compared to a coarser grain on earlier cars....
32k and 2 previous owners...
Condition isnt concours by a long shot.... but at the same time it has been very photogenic in my ownership.... the better the camera equipment, the better the results.

Here are a couple of images from 2 months ago at the Birmingham NEC....

My car will be back on the road by spring, but I would prefer you to travel to me in Newport to take the pictures to save me bringing it to you.... I dont want anything at all as payment, maybe just credits to the pictures and a mention of the DeLorean Owners Club UK somewhere...

I can offer you a place to photograph indoors which can be a bonus if the day you choose is raining or dull....

My contact details are available via PM as and when!

Thanks
