DeLorean for Sale on website
#16
£25K would still probably be outside of my budget as well (by quite a bit). I emailed Russell after seeing the website because there was'nt any price and he responded with the following:

"How much do I want for the car? In all honesty I want as much as I can
I have had offers and valuations up to £33k, on a good day in a decent auction house I feel it would be close to this."

Sorry if it caused any confusion Chris, but as nobody had mentioned the site on here I thought people might be interested. I also went back to Russell and said I'd posted a comment on the forum with the website address. I got the impression he didn't know about the club or site and that he's probably get loads of advice, not to mention more potential buyers, through here.

Again, sorry if it caused confusion. Good luck to him on the sales front.

This is the one. Smile

Hell yes I kinda guessed. Put together using two written off cars to make one good one, and a third one which went to Chris N... (unless I'm much mistaken!)

so this is the result of merging two cars together huh. Sounds like a long way round to getting a D back on the road.

Don't get too disheartened by some of the UK prices being mentioned. I have followed many manual D's on US Ebay that have sold for around the £10K mark (and even one that was a 'buy it now' for £7K - which I just missed out on by a matter of hours). Of course these are no where near concourse D's, but they did all have seemingly tidy rust free frames - and most were runners. And surely some of the fun of ownership is putting the thing back to factory spec again?

Add on £2/3K for shipping. And you really could own a D for a lot less than you may think.

Also a very good project car sold in Devon for 13K very recently (last week I think). So if you are patient they will turn up. Keep the faith - oh, and keep saving yes........

It is possible to get a running project DeLorean back to the UK, tax paid, for under £10k.

I need to look into it, but I *think* 30+ year old cars now get that BTI automatically. I got a blurb email from some import company saying that tax is only 5% when the car's over 30 years old.

Yes a few shipping agents have quoted me just the 5% import duties on an 81 D. I presume this is the case as they were the highly recommended shippers from P J Grady?

Look if you want a £25K D then there are a lot of candidates out there to choose from - many in the States too. However, in this price range there are also many of those D's that turn up every month on Ebay (or 'classic car' sites) and never seem to sell (it really is only worth what someone else is prepared to pay for it I think).

The one's I've seen go for sub £8K are a bit rough tbh. But they are easily restorable thanks to the great spares network available to DeLorean owners. The risk is, of course, buying something that expensive blind. But plenty of others have done it already - and it's worked out for them.

Thanks SteveyP and Stunned_Monkey, that certainly fills me with hope. In fact I've been checking out some of the cars on ebay in the states and there are some great examples for under the 15K mark. Take this one for example

The import option seems more and more appealing. Even if you do have to take a chance maybe that's half the thrill. I've also got a cousin over in Texas who works on classic cars who's happy to help, if only for the opportunity to drive the car from the purchase point to NY or another port! He'd also be able to check out cars around Texas for me as well, so that option looks very promising.

All I need now is to raise the cash. Come to think about it I need to make a claim for PPI mis sellling......hmmmm
