This one looks like an early car to me rather than an '83: lack of VIN plate in the door opening, no door guides, what appears to be a stitched binnacle, etc.

The lack of screw holes on the rear fascia for the licence plate bezel also suggest that it never made it over to the US.

An interesting one, anyone know who bought it?

Hi Phil

how is your car coming along?.

i would guess the stitched binacle looks new?.
does have early clock, gas flap.

struts reckon maybe new?. Perhaps they have spent a few quid to get to auction.
interesting what vin, and perhaps it came from the factory auction?

wow

got to be one of the earliest vins to exist.

could even be a re-used black tub maybe?

do we know its history?

alot of money for a car needing quite a bit of work.

Interesting, thanks for the info Dermot.

The photos reminded me of when I went to look at VIN #551 back in early 2002 (can it really be over 10 years ago?). Those very early cars have a distinctive 'feel' to them.

Hi Steve,

Good to hear from you! The car's coming along in leaps and bounds now, really taking shape. We'll have to catch up over a beer at some point and I can show you the progress so far.

I'll get some more photos up on the car's blog page later this week. I've got about 4 years worth of stuff that still needs to go on there.

Are you back in DeLorean ownership now?

Hi Phil

no unfortunately. Business is very bad so had to sell my cars (MG has gone as well)

i always wanted the Wales car but did not have the cash when it came for Auction (thought it had my name on it like yours did for you!)

i do intend on buying again if a manage to get more work, pay bills etc!. (would import a barn find from states probably)

yes i need a Delorean fix, so when you are free for a beer would love to meet in the pub and maybe see how things are going.

very frustrating when you want a car but cant afford one, worst recession since i have ever worked (1984-)

Regards

yes vin 1621 had to go (now down south) and MG SVR (top Gear car 400 BHP carbon fibre), both very different.

now can barely afford bills each month. let alone 'toys'

even pension on hold now for 2 years, and no where to cut back. (last week long holidat was 3-4 years ago) last year our family holiday was 3 nights in a caravan.
and our government gives tax concessions to the super rich

326 miles !!

This car has automatic transmission and the popular Grey interior, but a unique story to tell. Manufactured in
1981, it was the first of 11 DMC-12s to be purchased from DeLorean's receiver at a BCA auction at
Blackbushe in 1982 and has remained in the same ownership ever since. Unregistered until this year, it has
covered just 326 miles to date and is therefore presented in as-new condition

Is "Blackbushe" another name for the Culloden auction? Never heard it called that before.

Blackbushe is in Surrey and not the Culloden auction.
The Receiver sold off a number of cars throughout GB at British Car Auctions.

bearing in mind most DMC's over here seem to be in the £20k price range now, £26k for a car with that history which
is practically brand new seems a bargain - ok, it will need new tyres and other work if the new owner intends to
use it, but even so......
