#1
>Speed and Steam at Didcot: a unique day out
>
>Go back 50 or more years, and young boys wanted to be train drivers because they perceived it as glamourous, and one way to travel (drive) fast.
>Fast forward to modern times, and young boys want to be F1 racing drivers for the same reasons.
>
>At Didcot Railway Centre, we have put together a very unique day out, which embodies both aspects of the above. Called Speed & Steam, it costs £145 for the day, and the three dates for 2011 are 25 June, 30 July and 20 August (All Saturdays).
>
>The day begins in front of Didcot Parkway rail station between 0900 - 0915.
>Journey to Williams F1 museum at Grove (Wantage) aboard a vintage bus.
>Guided tour round the largest F1 museum in the world, which is rarely open to the general public. There are 40 F1 cars in the museum, presented chronologically by year, with extensive video presentations.
>Includes the technology room and trophy room. As well as a chance to sit in an F1 car.
>
>Return to Didcot for a sumptuous lunch on board the Super Saloons.
>
>Guided tour round the railway centre.
>See the replica of a Brunel broad gauge locomotive, Fire Fly, with appropriate carriage stock. And the 20 or so other Great Western steam locomotives, many in the correct surroundings of the original 1932 built GWR four road shed (now listed).
>See the progress on the new build "Saint" and "County" projects in the workshops, to recreate locomotives of long lost classes.
>See the progress on the locomotive repatriated from Australia, Pendennis Castle.
