hmmm, so its got the DMC's wide stripes, twin pipes and rear louvres.......... dont think
JZD would approve somehow - looks like a cross between a Nissan 350Z and a Toyota MR2

Seems they are quite serious about it though. They have just launched this site today: http://www.newdelorean.com/

I wonder how a new car sporting the DMC badge would effect the value of our stainless DMC12's?

I dont think it will mate, the original DMC-12 has a cult status about it, and nothing can
detract from that.

Amazing, I cant see it affecting the DMC12 either, but it does seem a strange project to be embarking on in the economic climate we are in at the moment. Still hats off to them and good luck, anything to promote the DMC

Hmm not sure on the styling...? :| It does not appear to share much in common with core elements that make the DMC brand. Mind you we could have seen TR7/8 covertables with a DMC badge back in the day.

However I bet John Z. would have had a big grin on, if he knew DMC would end up rescuing Pontiac Smile .

If it does happen, I hope the designers make sure the handling and power is kick a**.....Bring on the Stig!

FWIW, I think the Solstice/Sky are the GM twins of the Vauxhall VX200 and Opel Roadster. (I think those are the right models). So slap a DMC grille on the next one you see on the High Street and you'll get the idea of what it should look like.

I'm sure that quite a few of you know, that had the rescue plan gone ahead to save the DeLorean factory from reciveship, that the new owners had firm plans to build a convertable along side the regular gull wing car.

They had already bought out the rights and tooling from BL to produce an updated version of the TR8. They were all sitting around awaiting a phone call from JZD to see if he was going to allow them to use the DeLorean name. If he declined, they had already agreed to use the "Healey" name, as in Austin Healey etc. So it could have been the Healey Gullwing and the Healey convertable. However the news they recived was that that JZD had been arrested in room 501 with his suitcase of white powder!

That was it! Fanito, the financial backer went away, the deal collapsed, the factory remained closed....end of story. The full story will be in mine and Andy's book "Stainless Steel Lagacy". ..eventually! Dont you think the proposed new DMC car looks a lot like this?
