Temporary Car Insurance...
#1
Ive been getting car insurance for a day here and there when I need it (for my Volvo 740) from www.tempcover.com - they've been great... until tonight! Got as far as entering my card details and it keeps showing an error saying ive entered my card expiry date incorrectly... even though I havn't... when I hit the Pay button the drop down menu seems to reset itself to 01 0001 (as if we were around in the year 0001 haha). I've emailed them about the error and Ive even rang them about it... they gave me an option of doing the day policy over the phone but due to admin fees, it would be £10 more! Sod that!

Does anybody know of any other temporary car insurance websites?

Many thanks!
Kind Regards,
Jonny Jones

What kind of quotes did you get for your one day insurance? And what car was it for? I always wanted to know as I did came across a few occations when an insurance policy like this would suit my need.

tempcover.com is underwritten by Norwich Union. But ANY insurance company you contact only do 12month policies! I literally spent and entire evening looking/ringing companies trying to find sort of 2/4/6 month policies, but there is nobody apart from tempcover.com as far as I have found - they do 1 to 28 days cover.

Like I said, its for my Volvo 740 hehe, but its fine now I went downstairs onto the PC (I was up here on my Mac) and did it on there and it worked fine so ive now got the cover I wanted. Its approx £16 per day.

I had one occation where I sold a car and promised the buyer that I will drive the car to his house.

However the car have no tax disc and I need insurance to drive it (as well as to tax it). So a one day insurance would be perfect, as I can then tax the car and legally drive it to the buyer.

In the end I refunded a small amount of money to ask the buyer to collect the car himself.

I didnt think you could do that John, with one day cover you dont get a certificate so I dont know how you would insure it :?
but the insurance is handy when you need to use a car just for a day or 2

Glen, I dont want to buy a 12 month policy with Direct Line for example, as I will probably drive the car once a week and will only have it for 6 months, and they wanted over £400 fully comp, only paid £200 for the car haha so didn't make sense. So insuring it for a day here and there seemed a good way to go about things.

You get a Certificate of Motor Insurance even if its for a day and you get everything else that you would get with a normal 12 month policy paperwork wise, so its fully legit and its underwritten by Norwich Union and is regulated by the FSA. They just probably didn't fully test their site with Mac users haha!

Oh yeah with that day insure site, your car has to be made after 1993 or something? Otherwise they wont insure you... mine is a 1989 Volvo so... thanks for the link though Smile
