Got myself a Volvo 740!
#1
Picked this up yesterday. A load of mates and I are doing a trip around France in the summer and the deal was to get a really rubbish car for very little money and at the end of the trip sell the car and the money goes to charity! Website is http://www.crapheapchallenge.co.uk So I got this 740 2.3ltr 1989, 167k miles for £200! The interior needs a LOT of work, its got no radio even haha! Drives so much nicer than my Corsa as well! The engine bay is immaculate and theres no funny noises coming from the engine so im happy! Me being me I'll probably end up keeping it and selling the Corsa haha! Its got 'overdrive' too which I found a cool feature = 1,2,3,4th gear and the gear knob has a button for 5th! Needs new tyres, getting those today. Check that number plate!

I think youll find overdrive doesnt work under 50, and those back seats,,I used to hate driving behind people with kids in those seats, it would always start with a wave and a smile and then the tounge ,,always ended up you had 2 snot nosed little 8-10 year old flicking the V's up at you. GRRRR :x

Thanks mate! Big Grin Intention is to spend the next few months getting it all looking mint, all electrics working, new roof lining etc etc. I feel as though I rescued it, as the previous owners obviously didn't give a.... didn't care about the car at all haha! Gonna sort the carpets and seats out this coming week, got a tiny oil leak coming from somewhere so that needs looking at, list goes, but at the end I'm hoping it should be sound! Thought about blacking the windows out slightly at the back, as it will have a LOT of expensive camera equipment in it, and if we end up parking anywhere in France I don't want it all to go missing!

Are you going to the local scrap yard for the light lens, carpets, seats etc as there should be loads of Volvo's to pick quality bits from?

Is worth spending money getting the roofliners replaced etc?, its unlikely to add any extra value to the sale of the car when you have finished with it... I would personally rather spend the money on scouring the scrapyards now for spares cheap as possible, and get yourself kitted out with as much as you can take ......alternator, starter, water pump, radiator etc....bulbs and so forth.

Cheers
