Hi Chris,

Yes, I finally brought her home on Sunday morning

VIN# 12173 was the first DeLorean I ever saw about fifteen years ago when it lived in a motor museum near my house. Over the years, it became “the one that got away” as I came close to owning the car on one or two occasions but just missed out. It was very nearly sold to an Australian buyer some years ago (when the asking price was about £40k!) and on more than one occassion I thought I'd lost the car altogether. So yes it's a very special car to me personally.

Here's a nice embarassing photo of me posing with VIN# 12173 at the motor museum. This photo would have been taken about 10 or 11 years ago. Check out those legs!!

VIN# 12173 was formerly owned by Chrispy and up until recently was the one known as Gully on account of its number plate. Now it’s reverted back to its original Northern Ireland number plate (SIJ 1084) so the name Gully doesn’t apply any more.

It’s one of the original Wooler-Hodec batch and has covered just over 1000 miles from new. Chrispy never drove the car during his ownership so when I drove it home on Sunday that was the first proper journey it had done in over 20 years

It's got a complete history file including the bill of sale from the auction in 1983, letters from DMC receivers, the infamous letter from Gerry Castle about performing the “Euro Spec” light conversion and all the letters I wrote to the original owner years ago trying to buy the car off him!

I made a start on the restoration on Sunday afternoon. The car is definitely not concours at the moment but hopefully it will look pretty smart when the restoration is finally complete. I’m going to take my time with it though, as it's not going to be up for sale again now until I’ve popped my clogs :wink:

Just thinking, It might be one of the cars, that I Helped load on to the container to go to Wooler-Hodec in England 26 years ago!

what scares me about the Delorean car and its history, how it effects peoples lives, and how it brings people and car together after all these years. Like you said you first saw the car when you were 15 years old and today you own it.
