Hi all. Just wondered what sort of oil is best for the manual box. My mechanic friend at work was wondering if 75 90 semi synthetic is ok or do i need something else. Need to know asap if poss. Cheers.
According to my manual:
Manual Gearbox & Differential uses oil type:
MIL-L-2105C or GL5
For Manual Gearbox:
Ambient Temperature Above 20 degrees Celcius, SAE 80
Ambient Temperature Below 20 degrees Celcius, SAE 75.
I personally have used Comma Gear oil to SAE75-90 multigrade in my rear Diff.
If I had a manual box I would put SAE75/90 multi grade oil in my manual box.

75/90 Semi Synthetic gearbox oil is fine for the D gearbox. 3 liters is needed.
Before you drain the oil make sure that you can remove the filler plug !!!
Snap On do a 10mm Square socket that is ideal for the job

Beg to differ... 3.7 litres
Yes that right, you may as well buy a 5 litre can cause it'll be cheaper, but 1.3 litres of it will spend the rest of eternity on a shelf in the shed
I think 3.7 Is from dry. The last one I drained and refilled only took 3. However that was a very long time ago now

MMM from memory my last D gearbox oil change was 3. And my god what a difference it made
You could try what Lotus recommend in the Esprit (UN1 gearbox too so still have that feeling of stirring bricks
) - Castrol TAF-X 75W/90 GL4 at £8 per 500ml!!!!!
Wise words from Mr Shane, remove the filler plug before the drain plug
No problems guys my mate has a 25 ltr drum of the stuff so we just filled it up to the fill plug point wich it says in the manual. Easy when its free from work didn't cost me a penny.
