For the filter use the Mahle OC460, it's tried and tested: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-62542-mahle ... type-.aspx

I use the Draper version of one of these, which you can get a spanner around:

I bought one of those socket type plug keys initially, you can't get a ratchet on the back of it.

I use one similar to the version on the ebay link, works a treat.

I think I used an open ring spanner or shifter on the opposite end. Just need something to crack the seal initially then it just spins out.
So I tackled this the other day, used a Halfords HOF206 oil filter in the end as I was in a rush to get it done before a trip away.
Had to exchange my plug key as, you guessed it, not enough room to get my ratchet behind it!
Replaced with one similar to MikeWards ebay link that allows you to use a spanner to turn it.

Since finishing the job I have noticed my oil gauge is through the roof, -vertical in fact. I don't think I knocked the oil pressure sender or cable but need to check. Failing that it could be the sender itself but it was working fine before!
Dodgy wire on the end of the sender? Maybe bumped it while playing with the oil filter?

Where's the oil level up to on the dip stick?

Funny mine did exactly the same thing after I changed the oil at the beginning of the year. Though dropped down at idle. Had to change the sender in the end. I put it down to the lack of use the car had had and had pushed some crud up there, but may be another reason.
