Full Version: Advice required on changing front wheelbearings

Hi all,

#6772 (Sorbet) passed her MOT today thankfully, but she did get an advisory for a rumble
in one of the front wheel bearings.

Has anyone changed one of these before? Is it a relatively 'simple' job, or is it something
more specialist that will involve booking it in with a local garage.

Cheers in advance,
You will need a press. And patience if when having undone the hub nut, one of the inner races decides to remain stuck fast to the stub axle.

All in all a fairly easy job if you have access to a press

Likewise cant argue with the above.... however when I have done them I put new discs on at the same time (not to expensive whilst your there) and use plenty of oil whilst pushing the new ones in. Needs a strong press as well!

Chris
If you remember on wheeler dealers they did the front bearings on the charger and i've done them before which means they can't
be difficult...its a job that i'm sure big phil could easily manage..
we dont have access to a press - thankfully the braking system was renewed last year
so that wont need doing Smile

Anyone got a part number or x-ref for the bearings?
They're the same as a Fiat 128 and cost about £12

I can press one in for you, no problem and I've got one 'on the shelf'

Nice one Rich thanks for that.

Can we sort this either after work today or tomorrow or sometime over
the weekend? Just so you know though, Sorbet is booked for a birthday hire
on Saturday evening (and mine is off the road, so Phill cant use Flopsy instead).
Are both cars practically identical Claire?

well apart from the fact that mines got grey wheels, black seats and a proper gearbox,
mines also lacking a tax disc now
@RichH - we'll probably sort out with you doing this job after the NEC, makes
more sense really.
funnily enough, took Sorbet for MOT today, and got another advisory on that
same wheel bearing, so thought I'd look on here for a parts x-ref, and hey presto
found this thread that I'd forgotten I started 18mths ago

RichH - you still got that bearing 'on the shelf' and access to a press?
