Had my Delorean on a rack today just to nose around the underneath. I noticed that the seal gaskets on the gearbox were leaking oil. Does anyone know where I can get a full set of gaskets for the gearbox. Are they generic or specials?

Mike
Try tightening up all the bolts along the length of the gearbox first. I don't know about anyone else suffering these worming their way loose over time, but mine do. Spray the whole area and brush it off with brake cleaner and leave it for a while (driving as normal) to see if you can then spot where the oil is coming from. I think also my sump nuts are also a bit loose, right where i can't get at them, right above the engine cradle. I'd need a specially bent spanner to get at them without lifting the engine up off the cradle!

It would be a hell of a job to crack open your gearbox and replace the gaskets....in my opinion.
Are you sure it's not just the driveshaft seals leaking?
Yes it is leaking from the drive shafts the mechanic that was with me looking at it said if he was going to replace the driveshaft seals he would want to replace all the seals. That's why I wanted to know where to get them. Want to get it sorted before it gets worse.

Oh Martin the fir trees arrived this morning thanks mate

Driveshaft seals can be done in-situe and are the usual culprit. Anythign else pretty much requires the gearbox come out.
You will also need to be very careful if you do replace the driveshaft oil seals, they're on the insides of the hub nuts and you need to get the load on them correct as they control the pre-load on the bearings - and they can have a spectacularly short life if 'wrong' . I think the manual recommends counting the number of turns in and out. Perhaps the more accurate way is to pull the 'box out and check the preload with a spring balance, though I'm sure this probably isn't 100% necessary in practice.
The seals themselves don't set the preload and the manul is wrong when it suggests you have to disassemble in order to replace the seals. They can be a proper bi-artch to seat correctly and not leak though!

You should be able to buy them from your local Renault stealer for about £15-20 each
mart,

do you know what specific model number i need to ask for at renault?

Mike
i usually use a 1992 espace v6 or 25 turbo
Thanks Mart, i'm going to put some speedi sleeves on the shafts while i'm under there I've found a company that do them local but i need the dimensions of the shaft Bore, Diameter & width . Do you know where i can find out so i can get my order in?
