Hi folks,

Those of you who have seen my D recently will know that the air-con compressor has a repeated ‘chugging’ noise to it when idling, which increases with rotation speed. I assume that the bores of the compressor are worn or something.

Does anyone know if…

(In order of increasing expense and therefore decreasing preference…)

a) They can be internally lubricated any way?
b) They are rebuildable? (Rebuild kits are available in the UK?)
c) They are rebuildable? (Rebuild kits are available anywhere?)
d) They can be rebuilt by specialists in the UK?
d) New compressors are available in this country (either DeLorean or equivalent)
e) I can get one from Ed?

If nothing available (a)-(e) then I can always get one from Special T auto or DMCH.

Which raises another point….

I could either get a compressor at $195 or a (compressor plus evaporator) for $225 from SpecialT.

So if anyone wants to chip in the difference, I could get a kit and you get an evaporator for the difference!

Thanks all,

RAH
or indeed anyone has a decent working spare!!
I've recently pulled one that you're welcome to try, but no guarantees. It was working a couple of years back, but the system has been open at the front for some time. Still v oily though
I remember James Espey saying at the DMCH Open House in 2003 that when he needed a
new A/C Compressor for his old Range Rover, that the DeLorean one was virtually the same.

Is it worth checking out any Range Rover breakers to see if they've got one? There is one
fairly local, in Nottinghamshire I think, as Phill got a full LPG kit from them last year which
came off a V8 Rangie.
