My VIN number as per the plate is 18 characters long and as such the HMRC car team are struggling as their system only allows for 17 characters. The only 17 character reference I can find is on the US title deed (it omits one of the “T”’) so it looks as though the NOVA will use the Title Deed number going forward. How have other owners managed?

I think this is important because sometimes I see lots of guests online as opposed to registered users...
So who is looking at our information? Friends, Foes? Basically any Tom Dick or Harry!

In my opinion everyone registered should sign in to view, post, and participate.
The forum is a bonus of being a member of the club and it can still remain free to anyone.

But let's protect our privacy, and new users should be required to state their interest in the car/community before being accepted.
Anyone else agree?

As you may or may not know, I am retiring from being the forum Administrator. I have done my last database backup of the forum.
I have also performed a full file backup of the forum and the DOC web site.
I shall copy this to a DVD and pass it to the next elected Forum Administrator person. On Monday I shall promote that person to Administrator status, give full passwords and full access to everything related, give a tutorial on how the forum works and how to perform backups via the web.

From Sunday (11 Nov 2007), if any forum users have problems with this forum then please contact the new Admin person direct.

It has been fun setting this forum up and glad it is being enjoyed by so many. I would have loved to continue work on this ie plan on the upgrade to the next forum version, but unfortunately my work load has increased. Because of this I now plan on spending my "Forum Admin" time working on my De Lorean.

I shall still continue to give car related help to others if I have time.

Best Regards,

How to share photos with the group:

Make sure your photo will fit on the screen without people having to scroll around. The easiest way to do this is to use windows explorer to find your photo. It should show the image dimensions (width x height), if the height is more than 500 then resize the image so the height is a maximum of 500. From windows explorer right click on the photo and select open with open with and then Microsoft image composer. From the tools menu select arrange, then amend the scale to have height of 500 and press apply. The select file and ‘save as’ to save the resized image.

You now need to put the photo on the web, if you don’t have your own web site your best bet is to use www.photobucket.com or any photo hosting site where you do not have to be signed in to view other people’s photos (ie not yahoo).

For a guide on how to use photobucket to add your photos to the forum see http://www.jensencv8.com/images/photosmart.pdf

If you are not using photobucket:

Make a note of the web address for the photo (eg http://www.jensencv8.com/images/DSCF7001a.jpg) make sure you include the http:// bit.

You are now ready to add your photo to the forum, go to the members cars section http://www.joc.org.uk/phpBB2/viewforum.php?f=17 and click new topic. Enter something suitable in the subject and then press the IMG button (below the subject line). Paste the web address you noted above, and then press the IMG* button (flip / flops between IMG and IMG*).

You will then have something that looks like:

To all,

With the recent downtime of the current ISP it has been decided that the harmonisation between the current forum hosting and the www.deloreans.co.uk will be rapidly brought forward (, as noted in the AGM at the NEC)

The transfer will be done this afternoon from 14:30 and should be active before 19:00 if all the export/ reimport SQL data transfer goes to hand.

The majority of the work has been done in conjunction with myself and Tristan last night and this morning to minimise disruption with this hopefully seamless transfer.

The new forum will work in the same way as before.

ALL data will be transferred which is why this forum will be locked/ closed down during this short interim.

Once the forum is back up please let us know if something has been missed using the Forum Error Reporting Forum or email me at

NickT@ukdmc.co.uk (this email will be active for 2 weeks after this post has been posted)

Please be constructive in your errors giving as much detail as possible.

Once this is up and working we would be grateful if you could update any links in your favourites or personal web sites to reflect this change.

Thank-you in advance for being patient.
