VIN Number
#1
Hi, looking for some advice please. My VIN number as per the plate is 18 characters long and as such the HMRC car team are struggling as their system only allows for 17 characters. The only 17 character reference I can find is on the US title deed (it omits one of the “T”’) so it looks as though the NOVA will use the Title Deed number going forward. How have other owners managed?

As I understand it the VIN number is 17 digits.

For a production Delorean the first 8 should be SCEDT26T the ninth character is a check digit. 10th is model year (B 1981, C 1982, D 1983), 11th manufacturing plant which in our case is D for Dunmurry, then 12 to 17 is the serial number.

My 1981 Delorean is SCEDT26TXBD002703.

There is a useful explanation on Delorean Directory.

Hi there, mine is a 1982 with (according to the VIN plate) the following VIN:-

SCEDT26T4TCD010023

From your helpful reply it does look as though my tenth character (T) is the extra, erroneous character, weird!

Cheers
