#2292 New engine
#91
Tres bon. I found it on DMCtalk somewhere. I only go on there once in a blue moon.

Good result re flywheel, was it from a Rover place or Land rover?

Flywheel was from a Rover SD1. Found out the starter motor is knackered on the engine, but got a refurbed
Bosch one coming tomorrow with a 2yr warranty for £58 incl postage.
The Compression tester arrived today, so tomorrow we'll fit the starter motor and do a compression test on all
8 lovely cylinders. We'll do a full strip down anyway, replace gaskets, etc, but the engine turns over freely by
hand so fingers crossed it'll be okay and not need much in the way of new parts.
Decided to go the carb route re the fuelling system.

We've taken the rocker covers and sump off the V8 engine to inspect things, and the crank appears
in good condition, although the camshaft warrants further inspection, a friend of ours who knows these
engines suggests its not had the regular oil changes it needs (every 6000 miles).
However, it is possible to purchase a complete top end engine rebuild kit for this, which includes
camshaft, timing chain, all the gaskets (incl rocker cover, waterpump, head, sump, manifold etc), piston rings,
cam followers, full set of shells for crankshaft and main bearings, all the seals, new drive gears, etc for
£299 and free delivery - you can't even buy a decent set of piston rings for a PRV-6 for that according to
a Alpine specialist we know locally. Ebay item number is 401408469485 (this is the standard 3.9 kit, the
performance one is £585.00)
I have someone interested in buying all the EFi set up off of my engine, plus I can sell the 4x4 manual
flywheel, so I can recoup some costs that way.
Hoping to let our V8 buddy have a closer look at the engine in the coming weeks if covid restrictions allow
to get his opinion on it, but the engine moves very freely, so I think I've been lucky and got a good one.

not much to report so far, but Rich Hanlon has generously lent us the blocks and stuff to do the frame sep,
we just need a few more jacks (and maybe a few willing volunteers) and we can maybe sort out a weekend
to do the frame separation.

I've got my 2nd vaccine on 6th June, so maybe mid-June onwards if anyone wants to help - William, Rissy,

I've just literally on Saturday there, completed my air conditioning system build on the car. I've got a mobile AC guy coming to me this Saturday to get the system charged and operational (quite excited, i've never had AC in LEX the whole time I've owned her!).

I'm talking sweetly to Richie Hitchy and Andy Pandy to come down on the 5th (or alternatively, the 12th if they can't make the 5th), in order to help me just give the car a final check once over, and rebleed of the brakes (I may have to adjust the booster if we can't make it right just from beeding!) so that I can then get the car MOT'd a.s.a.p after that (I'm hoping Thursday 10th or Friday 11th since i'm off on holiday those days anyway). So depending on their feedback, Leanne and I could come up (In LEX possibly if she's all ok!!) on Saturday/Sunday 12th/13th, or Saturday/Sunday 19th/20th to give you a hand.

I can keep you posted on progress and availability....

that would be awesome chap, we've got a double guest bedroom now if you want to make a weekend of it,
if the weather's decent maybe have a barby too Smile

I know we can't do the first weekend in July as we're away with the Cavalier and Chevette Club at the VBOA meet.

Might be able to manage a few hours Claire, yes. It'll be much easier with a team. I did the separation and rejoining on 6126 on my own and it was knackering, in both directions. Both jobs took a solid day on their own with jacks and chocks of wood etc. Then again I had to go high up to the garage ceiling, in order to give myself working space underneath. I guess if you only need to go high enough to roll the chassis out to work on elsewhere we won't need to go so high.

Us neither. Planning on going to see the family, finally. Haven't seen my family since 2019. My sister is due to give birth to no.2 early July, so we're trying to coincide our visit with that during the first week in July.

just an update, on progress (report to follow in forthcoming DeLorean News article).

Can I give a massive shout out to Rich Hutchinson, Chris McGeachy and Andy Westerman
(and Chris's girlfriend Leanne, Mika the Lhasa Apso, and Helen Makewell) who came over
on 19 June and got stuck in with doing the frame separation with Phill.

People like this are what make this great Club what it is, the camaraderie, friendliness,
willingness to give up half a weekend to help out fellow members, etc.

Its brilliant.

Thank you all so much.

It certainly is Claire...... I broke down a week ago only 5 miles from my house!  Car badly over-heating....and after waiting for hours and hours for the AA .....5 to be exact.....Andrew Westerman organised a breakdown truck friend of his...to rescue me.

With the engine being so hot and getting dark and every-thing apparently looking OK....I wrongly assumed it was a faulty header tank. (that's where all the steam was coming from).

However in the calm light of the next day and with a cold engine. it took 10 mins to correctly identify and fix the problem. A missing bolt (must have dropped off or broken) from the Alternator bracket!

The AA kept asking me I was in a "safe place"...I foolishly said yes ...so I must have kept getting bumped down the queue.

Ive had my revenge...the renewal came in today...its gone in the bin....(Sorry Chris W). Angry

What made it worse was my phone battery was nearly dead...and I told them so on my very first call...it didn't make any difference...every time I tried to contact them it kept 'sending me around the houses' until my phone died.  Luckily I'd phoned Andrew by then, who organised everything. Angel .

On the plus side the car is running fine now and I'm glad I wasn't tempted to tow it......being an Auto.

Lessons learnt.......carry a good touch and a phone charger. Blush  and don't rush to conclusions.

No problemo from mine, and Leanne's front.  Happy to help.  An education, and a patiently waited upon experience in my books.  Rubbing my hands ready to get Flopsy lowered back down now.  Wink
