1/6th DeLorean
#1
Hi all,

Some of you may know the collector in me. For the past few (maybe 5) years I've been collecting Hot Toys 1/6th models of Iron Man. Initially it was a small thing - the 2nd movie had been released so I was looking at, perhaps, a number in the range of 6 or 8 (two per movie etc)... but then Iron Man 3 happened and I've been poor ever since... Hot Toys themselves make 1/6th models of characters ranging dozens of movie, game and comic book franchises, whether it's Alien, Indiana Jones or Star Wars - they're big business in China and Japan and whilst not so much here, they do have a following and the models themselves are usually rare enough to increase in value fairly quickly.

Last year they released Marty McFly - and now the BTTF DeLorean; both 1/6th (Marty fits IN the car).

Here are a few pictures of mine; it's HUGE and, yes, very very expensive, but worth it to me. I did the Man Maths, so don't judge too harshly!

The detail, whilst perhaps not 100% accurate, is damn near perfect for anyone with a passing interest. Marty, as you can see, even has pin badges.
The whole car lights up (the flux capacitor is animated) and has tiny details all over it; cables, a working gear shift, head lights.. a wonderful piece of work.

The links below show more, including door straps and door guides! - plus a room I've just had converted to house my collection. It's quite important to me, so again, judge to yourselves Wink

Both are freely available (I think) from the likes of Forbidden Planet, Sideshowtoys and ebay - Marty was, I think, around £200 and the DeLorean, £550.

As I say, expensive; perhaps not for what they are (if you like that sort of thing) but the detail alone is worth the money.

...would really like one, but the cost is prohibitive for me right now, and the space required to house the thing is also an issue. I had to keep my priorities in check and use the same money to get my real chassis welded up last week instead.

...maybe one day. But then probably even further out of reach financially. Sigh.

I do have BOTH AutoArt models though, which are superb! :-D

I certainly don't disagree with the sentiment there! There is hope - Hot Toys have shown a BTTF 2 variant (folding wheels) so maybe that'll work... but yes, it's too big for almost any environment. Lucky I managed to squeeze it in behind Igor and Tony observing his armour Wink

that's incredible Dan, fantastic detail, the model even looks like Marty, which is rare from other toys (sorry 'man collectibles') that I've seen.

It really is amazing!  The only two bad things, one of which is major in my opinion:

The flux bands should have been lit up with sheets of blue EL paper, and the p clips are silver!  They could have at least made them black, but should have been purple.  It's a key exterior detail but aside from that, super impressive!

The flux bands were separate when it arrived, so I can see why they don't light up. However, some enterprising modelers out there have done exactly what you think should have been completed and have them glow. But you can nit pick a fair bit - most of the car seems to have been modeled after the BTTF3 car (there's a YouTube video on it) so there are inconsistencies all over it.. but generally, it's fantastic and I couldn't care less. It'd fool 99.5% of anyone that looked, so I'm chuffed. Smile

I had this on order (as I think I told you at the NEC) but ended up going for the AutoArt instead. It's a stunning model, I just thought it was best to avoid converting it back to a normal car.

Well, I have after much badgering of kids/wife/bank etc finally got one of these myself and to echo the above comments it's huge! Just need to a; find a shelf big enough and b; find a display case to keep the kids grubby mits away from it!
