Delorean Doors
#16
I spoke to Chris N today, he said the doors you have would be repairable if they are still the original metal thickness, i.e. not thinned out with an angle grinder. It would be a long and difficult job though. Brian's door looks like a straightforward repair.

It looks like the right has been wire wheeled/grinder/hammered pretty badly, so he would have to see it in the flesh i guess. I'll try to get some better pictures tonight when i go to the garage,

The left one should be easily repairable

I guess its not really the bodyshops fault, at the time, the car wouldnt have been worth much, and thought it wouldnt be around 20+ years later for someone to restore it/strip the paint off.

Alltho i have never punched holes in a car to get filler to stick.. lol

Makes you wonder what caused the damage in the first place. They look slightly less alarming now they're cleaned up a bit. Could the dent in the drivers door be pulled out using those holes then weld them up? Never welded stainless me self tho...!,

Splicing your and Brian's door together might be an option, you could hide the weld behind the rubbing strip area.?

Good luck!

Chris N is the man to answer these sort of question……he can perform magic with stainless.

Having been into metal polishing for years, but with big advantage that with electro-plating, you can thicken the surface up again,. I suspect that a major problem with trying to sort these out are all the grinding that has been done to them. Once you make something "thin in places" its very difficult to get around that.

I'd be looking for some s/hand doors….even damaged and dented, as long as they have been got at by an angle grinder.

(Chris will probably says this is all rubbish, but its my view based on the pictures)
