engine vs European Emission Standards

hi DeLorean gurus! Apologize if this has already been discussed, but I cannot find this info anywhere:
do you know if the car`s original engine is officially categorized according to the European Emission Standards? I think about Euro-1, Euro-2, etc. categories, as described here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_e ... _standards . I understand the car is older than these directives, but maybe the engine can be still categorized if it is within the acceptable emission limits.

I'd have thought it highly unlikely

It would require the car be put through a some rigorous testing and analysis at a certified laboratory. I doubt anyone would want to throw that sort of money at it to find out....

Stock DeLoreans should meet at least euro 1 since that's roughly equivalent to the California emissions standards when the car was new (which it comfortably exceeded). According to Ed Uding (at DMC Europe), DeLorean engines rebuilt by him with modern cats meet at least euro 3, possibly better with EFI. This is of course completely unofficial.

Thanks for your thoughts, RichH and Starglider! Without official Euro emission documentation our bureaucrats will then only register non-modified, top condition DeLoreans, that pass the rigorous local Old Timer certification process
