DeLorean myths - Fact or Fiction
#1
Since people found out I got my DeLorean, I've been hearing stories from various sources...some people worked in the factory, others know people who worked there etc

Best one I have heard so far: there was a jacuzzi in John Deloreans Dunmurry Office, which was behind a screen that parted in half at the touch of a button to reveal the hotub. Can anyone confirm if this was true or not?

Apparently the Dunmurry offices were very grand and plush....are there any pictures of the offices available?

I got told of people buying the staff lockers after the factory closed and all fixtures and fittings were auctioned off. A gentleman bought a consignment of lockers and when he opened them he discovered a consigment of radios stored in them....obviousily misappropriated by a member of staff, and the gentleman who bought the lockers was allowed to keep the radios.

Another fella warned me, be careful what one you buy there are two types make sure you avoid the one with the slide windows!

What other stories have you guys encountered over the years?

My favourite was Rich's about the bloke who claimed to have had to break into a DeLorean once.... but I'll leave it to Rich to tell the tale....

Being a fellow country man and have a mate who grew up in a 'tough' part of Belfast during the troubles.

He told me that in the working class areas of Belfast many of the locals had their cars fitted with radio/cassette players from the factory......and then you mention the locker full of Radio's  .

His family ran a chip shop near the factory it was a regular sight to see a D pulled up outside the door and the driver collecting 10 bags of chips.

I hear of people having seats from the cars stored in their lofts etc I wonder what else is in those attics :?:

Was the Chippy the Niagra in Dunmurry?

I've a mate who recalls the cars going up the Pond Park Road omn test runs towards Aldergrove airport, he claims they had bits of foam stuck over them

Yes that would be correct, at the corners/center of the front/rear facia in the middle of the doors.

That would be cars on their way to being shipped, not for test drives I'd imagine.

It's funny, virtually weekly I get an Email from someone saying they have this part/that part that brother/uncle/dad has had stored for 30 years or so that 'fell off' the back of a lorry/factory/car prior to being fitted! Asking how much this stored tresure was now worth expecting it to be a fortune. Alas all I ever do is send them the link to DMCH showing how much it cost new off the shelf! Most things appear on Ebay soon after.

In fairness some do, but I tend to suggest the Ebay route that way the best price is obtained by what the market dictates!

True, then everyone gets a fair crack of the whip.

Dare say I will be hunting endlessly through ebay over the coming months for parts.

If I have to use Ed in Holland, my mates brother works in Rotterdam and commutes weekly back to Belfast. Hes more than happy to bring the smaller parts I need back in his suitcase, although the parts will be posted to his Rotterdam address it still saves a bit on postage back to the UK.

Sounds like a plan, was saying to Thomas (DMC4087) today that it would be great to meet up with local owners for a bit of a social.
