DeLorean's For Sale On Ebay, Updated as They Appear.
(25 Jun 2016, 06:54)Chris P Wrote: Plenty of cars have been bought for £10K or less in the recent past……its surprising what can happen when you march up to view it, with a substantial cash deposit in your pocket!….I speak from experience.

I went to see it yesterday as I have been thinking about another project but this is much worse than it looks in the photos. He's a nice lad who bought the car but I'm not sure the scale of the project was quite as evident in the photos from BHCC!?
I have plenty of pictures of anyone wants to see them message me.
As for parts, not much that you could re use at all sadly.
Would have to be a low price to make it a viable project and you'll have to be pretty handy with the spanners.

I didn't take a close up of the vin plate but you can see it here on the dash. Nothing on the inside of the door sill like normal.

It was an Engineering car in for a few months in the UK, before doing similar in the USA. These cars often lacked proper vin plates as they were never intended for sale.

It should have been scrapped like most of the rest of them. But the companies failure meant that it was later sold to raise money for the creditors. As I said, a little part of history.

In my experience, it does not add much if any 'value', but does does add a lot of interest.

When the car was discussed on DMCTalk, one guy claimed it only had an 11 digit VIN, missing the SCEDT part, so I was curious about that.

I'm afraid you'll have to go back Tongue

Interesting to see an early car come back to the UK, IMO it needs a sympathetic restoration where early features need to be preserved and originality, especially the binnacle and Dashboard should be kept as is... battle scars included. A frame off is a must I'd say and that tear in the stainless obviously... but it needs an enthusiast to bring it back to life. Asking price was a bit strong for me... I hope it doesn't disappear again and I'd like to follow a blog on this cars resurrection.
Cool

I suppose it could have been one the very small runs from the factory?

You know, the red painted, twin-turbo Gold wing special edition one's?  Rolleyes

Its a cheapish car for anyone who dosen't mind a painted one. ( but don't kid your-self that getting it back to stainless is a quick or easy job!)

Having lost my job I should be putting money to practical use but I am instead back to considering buying a De even if I have to sell it after not too long I cana t least tick it off the box of always wanting one. Wish I'd done it 5-10y ago before I had a house though! Was just reading through here as it's been a year or 2 since I was looking - not sure what's actually around atm other than that 27k one on ebay. Last time I looked it was about 20-25k for a working one I wouldn't need to work on (get someone else to work on) but I assume it's now like 25-30k? 30k used to get you a show-ready one!

I think that is about right. There are always the odd one outside this range, but i'd go for one that was running and regularly used/sorted.

One that has been standing for some while could easily cost you more in the short term…both in money and frustration, especially if your not too mechanically minded.

As to wether its a good idea in your personal circumstances is another matter and one for you. But as you say, you can always turn it back into money if needed.
Good luck in whatever you decide. But don't forget if you have cash available, you are in a very strong position to strike a good deal.

Ok I've got tabs open from carandclassic and deloreanclub.uk and classiccarsforsale so trying to look around for one that doesn't need me to fix it. Haven't tried much mechanical for a couple years as ended up paying someone else to fix what I'd done :/ I'll stick to computer engineer I guess

A Delorean that is sorted and we'll maintained should hold its value and might even go up in value...
Phone Dave Howarth to see if he knows of cars for sale that aren't actively advertised... that's how I found my first De
