It wouldn't cost you £400 in fuel to drive from Kent to Liverpool Steve......................if you ACTUALLY drove your car.

At 30mpg I reckon £65 of fuel each way.

well now Luke's got his car Steve, maybe he can help out with the workload
'up north', so you can concentrate on the Southern jobs Wink Luke wants to help
raise money for Parkinsons UK with his car as well as enjoy owning it.

When Chrispy had his BTTF conversion, he drove it everywhere, even from Derbyshire
to Basildon for the BTTF 20th anniversary bash that over 20 of us went to - yes it
got plenty of looks, but it never caused 'rubber necking induced pile ups' Smile

I was chatting to a guy with a Daimler Laundulette (sp?) and a 1933 Vauxhall Cadet the
other day, and he charges £400 for each car for a wedding, gets it no problem, and does
around 40-50 jobs a year with the cars. I said we were charging £70-150 for local jobs,
and he said we should be charging a minimum of £250 !! Someone round here gets £450
using a VW split screen camper for weddings.

I would have to agree with that. I have essentially turned down 3 events down south due to being too expensive, but like you Steve, my transport costs are just too high. I have recently done two larger events more towards your side, and I can say with certainty that I much prefer local events so that I have more time to spend with family etc. I would be more than happy to work with Steve on this to ensure that people can have the opportunity to have these cars for local events and weddings at an affordable price and not just end up with corporate events.

I have a chap who enquired about a wedding just last month but never heard back, I assume due to the fact that it wasn't as cheap as he wanted.. :? Give me a call and we'll work on something.

You should definitely be charging £250 as a minimum Claire. All it takes is a part to go and that's a few events gone. You are a large part of someones special day and everyone from the venue, to DJ, organisers etc. are making a little something out of it, why should the owner of one of the major parts of a wedding be out of pocket? I'm the last person in the world to want to rip anyone off, but we have to be realistic and at least go with the flow of others with unique cars.

What people don't realise is, it costs a fortune to run these things! Fuel for the Delorean (as I just found out over the last two days) seems to just drop out of the tank whilst driving. Then take into consideration transport costs for a proper recovery vehicle, parts, then charitable donations, and you soon find yourself with either minus figures or barely enough to make it worth while, hence why i'm trying to work towards local events and drive the car there (weather permitting of course).

good plan - we normally just factor in fuel costs, then add a bit for our time. Most of
our weddings this year have been for friends, I did one for a mate which involved driving
from just outside Nottingham (where I am), picking the guy up near Bilborough (Nottingham),
and taking him to Notts Forest FC for his wedding, then hanging around for pics, before
driving back. I charged £80 for that, cos it was a mate. Did another one near Stoke (50 miles
away) for a mate of Phill's son and charged £100 for that.

We dont do this as a 'business' tho, its just a nice little sideline to go towards the road tax, etc -
we enjoy our cars and take them to shows - or in my case, I take littleun to nursery, go
to the supermarket, etc in mine - thats what its all about really - its a car - it was designed to
be driven and enjoyed, and thats what we do Smile

Cheers Andy!

You would be correct. I was a bit confused at first also as I hadn't seen another Delorean like it. I thought it was one of the many slight variations over production, but turns out he painted them darker, which actually suit the rugged look of the time machine when in person in my opinion. Well spotted though

bttf car Wrote:The thing I hate most is when people phone for a wedding car I give them a price say £200 and get said inot paying that for. Car like that I can hire a vintage rolls royce for that. I always say ok that's fine There's lots to choose from in this area.

In UK wedding price to hire a wedding car is not so expensive. If you are looking to hire a wedding car, [SPAM] is best available option for you.

...But those cars don't have gullwing doors, and didn't appear in one of the most famous and liked movie trilogy's of all time, and are not in a state of finished productivity by quite some time, and in limited - irreplaceable numbers around the world.

It depends on what you want. If you want a Rolls Royce, then you pay Rolls Royce going rates. If you want a 32yr old classic, like the DMC-12, then you pay THOSE going rates. Simple.

Haven't posted for a while....

But when it comes to hiring out the D you have to remember you only have one passenger seat so your never going to end up taking the bride and groom from the church etc... so these cars do have a somewhat lesser practicality than hiring a Rolls Royce or equivalent.

I do a few weddings to cover tax and insurance then unless its silly money + just down the road + at a time that suits me i palm off any further enquiries from my site to other D owners.

I don't mean that in a bad way but you have to value your time, with a busy work life, and a little lad to look after my time's too valuable.
