Want to own a time machine?

At the end of the day, the cars are at least 30yrs old this year, so you've got
to treat them accordingly.

Any car can be unreliable, it all depends on how its been treated and how you
treat it. My car had been neglected in the US and had been in a couple of accidents.

I wouldnt mess about fitting a different sort of engine, the PRV is a tried and tested
and strong engine, and once decatted and brought up to the spec of the B28E Volvo
version is more then capable of keeping up with modern traffic.

lol, i'm assuming he has an extremely unreliable one.

I see your point. I have had my K reg beauty for 8 years now (4 years of it's life with over 400hp) and to my knowledge, the only things that have failed in it's life were a radiator and an alternator. It was treat like a second wife by myself, and a 1st wife by the original importer  I have always allowed the forgies to warm up before setting off and have manual override switches for the cooling system that I monitor when on boost, and of course allow the turbo to cool before returning either by crusing the last few miles or using my turbo timer.

My main reason for going down the shell and 3SGTE route is that I simply can't afford a loan to get a good running delorean due to upcoming family commitments (hopefully!) and I will need to move house etc. If I was single, one would be on its way already.

I'm thinking, I should be able to get a completely stripped car and have one of these engines fitted with a good friend of mine for less than £6-7k. I don't think I would get a decent delorean to the UK for anything less than £15k :?:

if you're gonna change the engine, then you need to think about the braking system, suspension,
gearbox, clutch, etc.... the man to speak to on here would be Martin G (stunned_monkey), he's
had quite a lot of experience with upgrading the performance on DeLoreans.

As for Quentin Willson, he's never owned a car, he's just based part of his career on slagging them
off unfortuntely  Mary Hooper had a run in with him one day at a show and brought him down
to size Wink

They're aren't many cheap cars in the US anymore, people like me and RichH were lucky in that we
bought ours 9-10 yrs ago, when project cars were still affordable if you were brave enough to take
one on of course

If you are looking at buying a non runner from the US, it might be worth joining a forum like DMC Talk
(I think thats what its called, I've not been on there myself, but many people have), and sound out
the US owners and vendors that are on there for any project cars that may be suitable and within
your budget.

Also, remember to factor in adding roughly 30% of the sale price to cover shipping and import to the UK.

Hope this helps, if you need any more info or advice just shout! Big Grin
