Changing magnets on blower motor
#16
SOLVED!

I removed the mode switch and investigated it. I discovered 2 problems:

1) Despite very carefully reassembling the mode switch to make sure the little V on the metal bar lined up with the indent and all that, I managed to fail to insert the plastic spikes back into the back of the other part of the mode switch, meaning rotating the knob did not rotate the maze. Whoops.

2) The tabs had been pushed through far enough to snap during reassembly, looking fine. However, that pin could be pushed through even further, pushing the maze harder into the metal, so that's what I did and pushed apart the tabs as best I could to hold it there.

Reinserted the mode switch, started the car up and hey presto! No hissing, and full function from the fans for the first time since I've owned the car! Woo hoo!

Thanks for all the advice along the way Rich, I'd hope this can remain a good troubleshooting thread for reference in the future!

In theory, theory and practice are the same. In practice, they are not.
