Factory origional right hand drive cars ???
#1
For anyone who is interested in RHD cars I have asked Nick Sutton (who was the Purchasing Manager and employed by DMC Belfast for just over four years) the following question.

Just for the basis of fact, where does this story or evidence on 'actual factory RHDs' come from ?... I have struggled to find any and would like to know more about this.

Just trying to find out some info behind the 4 listed on this page ..

And his response:-

All of them were converted by Wooler Hodec non at the factory or Lotus. WE didn't have the facilities/time or knowlege to do this in house.

Hope this clarifies..

Hi

Bit o/t on this thread but here is a picture of the burgundy trimmed car

http://i334.photobucket.com/albums/m405 ... le0039.jpg.

This car was bought at an auction when the factory closed, the owner knew someone in the receivers.. it was definitely trimmed in the factory also.
It has 'Euro' markers and rub strips, I can dig a couple more pics out if anyone is interested, Chris P knows about this car too.
Look how the binnacle is coloured on the inside part, DMCH have one on their wall exactly the same.
Even on the grey trimmed cars, that part of the binnacle is always black.

This car now resides in Kent, and is very rarely driven.

According to what I have heard from you would say very 'reputable' sources including ex factory employees there were three cars trimmed in three different colours, Burgundy, Blue and Red in the factory.

Burgundy - this car
Blue - Believed to be in Morocco, may have pics if anyone is interested.
Red - Could be the Kuwaiti car?

Now I say could be the red interior Kuwaiti car....Its definitely Ex Kuwait not Saudi and as part of my research into the Middle Eastern Vins, I have been able to talk to the owner in Scotland, its done about 20 miles in 20 years.....it also has a different stereo with remote control and is now painted silver, but originally was painted Green, it was re-imported by a Scotsman who was working in Kuwait, the story is it was owned by an Arab Sheikh, that is still uncorrabarated..at this point anyway...!

Shortly I will have pictures of this car also, we may be able to tell from this whether it was trimmed at the factory, when I get them I have permission to post them up, from what I can tell no pictures of this car have ever been made public.

Cheers

I've seen the burgundy interior trim parts on display at DMCH - got piccies if
DMCH dont mind me posting them up on here

Good luck with your research, and looking forward to reading more about these cars Big Grin

Sorry to dig this thread up from the depths. Reason I joined the forum was to see if anyone knew about my grandads car. The one from Kuwait that used to be brittish racing green now painted silver with red interior.

And sure enough I found a thread on it. Its still up in NE Scotland and has probs done less than 200 miles in 20+ years. I can just remember when he got it and im 27 now.

I think it was for sale last year, have a hunt through the cars for sale threads, it might be in there if
you fancy buying it back Smile

It's still available, the last time I saw it up it had a price of £25k, which is over priced for a painted car, in my opinion of course.

Do you know why it was re-painted silver and not taken back to bare stainless?

Do any pictures exist of the car in it's previous guise? I would imagine it would look similar to Rob Grady's DeLorean, which look's awesome for a painted D. If I was to have a painted D, it would be green. Smile

Re-reading this old thread, I'm wondering if the "no factory RHD's were ever made" is still maintained, given what Barrie Wills has added to the story. That most people don't know about them is because they weren't there at that time??? Phil?

Yeah he knew when he bought it that it used to be Brittish Racing Green, he was actually a bit gutted that they painted it silver. Would have been better left as is. Ill go round and ask if he has any more info on the history and see if he has any pics etc.
