I'd afraid I have to disagree with you on that one James.
It's not the character I'd like for my DeLorean.

Angle drives that break, fuel senders that leak/ erratic in operation, headlamp switches that auto turn off, speedo cables that do not fit etc. All newly manufactured parts re-designed. Why not stick with the original design that worked for 20+ years !

I'd rather repair what I have or replace with an OEM part - new old stock that is proven to fit and work first time. Worth it every time in my opinion (unless it is a safety related part like braking etc)

I completely agree there Nick.... as someone with a broken new 'rebuilt' angle drive and a new fuel sender that pees fuel out if i fill it up to much, and a lower new lower speedo cable that didnt fit ...

I would rather spend twice as much on quality parts than waste my time refitting bits again ... dread to think how much it woul cost me if i was paying someone to fit them.

Angle drive ....9 months now and counting for another 'new improved ' replacement...

Is it not worth seeing if Speedograph Richfield (near Nottingham) who I
*think* originally made them (Rich, can you clarify?), cannot remake
them at a sensible price?

There's obviously a huge home market for them - and also potentially a
large worldwide market - they could make a thousand or so and I should
think have no problem selling them.

I know I need ANOTHER one as Flopsy's packed up on the A13 coming back
from Grady's in January. :roll: My car's had probably 4 angle drives in as
many years :evil:

How about the club investing in a batch of these to sell on?

Any (modest?) profit can be re-invested in other 'in demand' parts to sell.

Depends how much they'd cost Nick. The club has some spare cash, but
I'm being very cautious this year with spending on stuff as its my first
year in the job so I'm still getting to grips with what has to be spent throughout
the year.

I think its definately worth looking into though! Smile

When I got my angle drive from Speedograph, they were originally going to make me a new one from scratch. That was going to cost £85 +VAT

In the end they found me a 'refurbished' one on the shelf (for the same price, but back then Huston had a core charge which would have made it about the same price to get one from them)

The refurbished unit locked up when turning it by hand so it never left the unit. Came back, same again. Third time lucky - nope, this time it locked up in the car park.

On the forth attempt they finally got it right and it actually made it into the Delorean.

There is a great risk in having these re-made of getting exactly the same problems as Houston have got with their units now. It's an awfully big investment for potentially no gain.....

Martin had some angle drives made. Very high quality but not cheap. I think he may have one left from the batch he had made. I think he put a post on the forum about it somewhere (including how much).

If the price was right I would have no problem buying 10 of them if you can get them remanufactured. I wont have much trouble selling them on and even though my angle drive is 28 years old its still as good as the day it was first installed (touch wood it does not snap on the way to Norfolk!) its still always handy to have a spare.

Sure let me know.

On a side note and on the topic of remanufatured parts from DMCH, here is a list of items that have failed on me or been below standard....

Fuel Sender (Screws missing from base, made gauge bounce)
Rear Engine Cover Hinges (Hinge broke after 6 miles)
Seat Covers (Bad Stitching)
Headlight Switch (Turned my lights off at night at 50MPH on a back road)
140MPH Speedo (10MPH slow, so 60MPH was infact 70MPH!!)
Stainless Front Grill (Totaly bent and broken out of the box)
Door locks (First one fell apart in the locksmiths hand, second one seized)
Coil Cover (Came without the bottom clamp rivited on)

As you can see, most things from DMCH are pretty crappy.

oh dear Alistair, not exactly a glowing indictment of the remanufactured
parts then! Shock

That speedo issue is worrying, you could be unwittingly speeding and get done
all because of faulty equipment :evil:

Yes, Martin does have some angle drives. I was over at his place last week.
He lists them on ebay too.

I think Martins' angle drives were about £150.00 but it is a nice piece of kit, and can be fully disassembled for lubrication
or if a component does get damaged you don't have to replace the whole thing.

On a side note I'm not sure if the club should invest money in parts unless they really are completely un-available,
it's a club, let the vendors invest their own money in parts, or enthusiasts/owners. Maybe that's a controversial
statement.

**Also my comment about the Character was little tongue in cheek, hope I didn't hit a nerve Nick!**

I too have reservations about the club starting on the process of getting parts re made, especially in light of DMCH having them re made at only $60 a pop;

And Martin having them made in the UK at £150 even taking nto account the profit Martin has to make I'm sure the UK ones cost him over £100 I doubt the club could get them made for less and then your still competing with the DMCH ones at £30.00 ($60.00). I remember DaveH getting windscreens done at great expence, took him from memory 15 years to get his money back and never made a penny!
Just my thoughts, although there is no harm in finding out.
