I think your on the right track with replacing the O2 sensor. I had one fail on my car and the dwell meter acted in the same manor.
Don’t forget to reset the Lamda counter.

Your 4th photo shows the thermo time switch. Your missing the outer cover for that connector.
That’s bad news as it does matter which way round it’s connected.

Very easy to put the distributor back in 180 deg out! I’ve done it ;)
I’m surprised if you got it to drive any distance though. When I did that it ran horribly.
And I turned it off after a few second... |

I’d check your getting fuel from the fuel pump to the fuel distributor first.

Check the two electrical connectors on the fans. These sometimes have issues
as they are quite exposed to road spray/water etc.
There can be issues with the earth set up in the relay compartment.

I had the same sticky throttle issue a couple of years ago.
I ended up replacing the inner cable. If you do this flush out the outer
cable with WD40. Put paper towels round the end in the footw... |

Good work there.
Only thing I noticed. Is the full throttle micro switch working? The reason I say that is the build up of rubber dust around it. I’m not sure what effect on idle it might... |

Sounds like you found the cause of the issue. I seem to remember if the idle motor fails or shorts out it can blow some of the electronics in the idle ECU.
Hopefully it’s a relatively straightforward... |

I have the base setting procedure for the fuel metering head out in the garage.
I’ll post it on here tomorrow. That will get you in the ballpark for the fuel mixture.

Re-reading your initial post. The fact that the car is reving to 2100 rpm. Sounds like a vacuum leak.
Just behind the area shown in your photo a vaccum line runs from the charcoal canister... |

Tris, Just has a thought. Check the idle speed thermistor connection.
It’s the sensor in the side of the water pump. It’s right in “the line of fire” of the
AC belt.

As Chris has stated these are all likely common faults apart from the high revs.
Double check none of the wires to the idle micro switch are damaged or have disconnected.
Most likely some rubber jamed... |
