| I think your on the right track with replacing the O2 sensor. I had one fail on my car and the dwell meter acted in the same manor.
Don’t forget to reset the Lamda counter.

| Very easy to put the distributor back in 180 deg out! I’ve done it ;)
I’m surprised if you got it to drive any distance though. When I did that it ran horribly.

| Check the two electrical connectors on the fans. These sometimes have issues
as they are quite exposed to road spray/water etc.
There can be issues with the earth set up in the relay compartment.

I ended up replacing the inner cable. If you do this flush out the outer

| Sounds like you found the cause of the issue. I seem to remember if the idle motor fails or shorts out it can blow some of the electronics in the idle ECU.
Hopefully it’s a relatively straightforward... |

Re-reading your initial post. The fact that the car is reving to 2100 rpm. Sounds like a vacuum leak.

It’s the sensor in the side of the water pump. It’s right in “the line of fire” of the
AC belt.

| As Chris has stated these are all likely common faults apart from the high revs.
Double check none of the wires to the idle micro switch are damaged or have disconnected.
