I have been running this pump for (guessing) 3 years now without any issues.

Good to know it's worked ok for you Chris.

I have had no issues so far. Car starts on the button.
Pump is very quiet. I would guess it uses less power than the original pump as well. This might be good for the RPM relay?

This weekends update.
Fitted a couple of updated solid state relays from Dave McKeen.
Finally got rid of the "temporary" fan fix.   Cool
Also replaced the fan relay.

Well worth following Dave's instructions regarding testing the fan fail
relay as this showed the "Fan Fail" light bulb had blown.
New bulb installed and everything works great.
Most notable change is if the fans are switched off
they continue to run for 20 sec. This is a function of the new fan relay.

Yes he makes some nice upgrades, I considered this myself but ended up replacing the fan set with low amp modern ones. Though I still would like to get the fuel pump relay.

Chris

I have a couple of DMCH low amp fans to fit. Another job on the list.  Smile
When I do I'll swap the fuses to 15amp as Dave suggests.

Noticed the red pektron resistor for the AC panel lights was missing...weird. Sure those lights used to dim with the headlights on in the past.

I was just replacing a couple of blown bulbs, on the AC panel lights I discovered while doing the fan fail
relay upgrade.

I noticed one bulb did not look the same. I thought after 17 years of ownership I would have discovered all the previous owners botches. But no! Check out the pic. Wired in to the bulb holder and covered in insulation tape because they did not have the right bulb! Rolleyes

This week/Weekend update.

Red relay replaced
Steering Column bush replaced
Clutch master cylinder rebuilt
Alternator replaced with 120amp Special T
Front earth point hardware renewed

I knew things were going to well Undecided .
Started strip down of radiator area to replace cooling fans with new low
draw fans. And the original radiator finally gave up the ghost. Started to weep
from one of the side tanks.
When I got it removed it did look pretty crusty to be fair. New radiator
ordered.
On the plus side none of the hardware broke or seized. Although I have stainless
replacements for reassembly.

Your not wrong Claire Big Grin

Well new rad is in. I also replaced the support brackets from my stash of gear I brought over on my last  US trip (Tam calls it a holiday, I call it a supply run Wink )
The originals were looking a bit tired and were also bent when compared to the new ones.
Everything went back in really neatly compared to how it was Cool .
Also installed the front recall kit, again from my stash. #2862 had most of the recall like the castellated
nuts and split pins. But not the reinforcement plates.

Low draw fans from DMCH are fitted. All I can say is wow! Switching the lights on has more effect on the volt meter than the fans coming on. Very quiet to.

RE: Vin 2862 - Nick H - 05 May 2018

Small update this week.
MOT passed.

Decided it was time to fit new rear shocks. I had a set in my stash that I picked up in the States for $75 the pair. Back when the exchange rate was really good  Wink

Wire brushed the springs and painted them along with the support collars.

Renewed the nyloc nuts that retain the bottom of the shocks.

One side completed, refit the other side tomorrow when the paints dried  Cool

Investigating a stutter under load from the engine. I cleaned the engine ground and the
ground under the coolent bottle. This coupled with the grounds cleaned last year resulted
in the voltmeter looking like this  Cool

Stutter was found to be a vacuum line disconnected.

Those vacuum pipes can be a nightmare are really easy to dislodge when fiddling with summat else.

Are you coming to the Retro Show on 24th June?

Yes those pipes are a pain. I decided to completely go though the vacuum system over the weekend.
I have renewed all the pipes apart from the 3 in the VOD. The bung was missing from the carbon canister. I found a broken wire in the CPR plug. So I ordered a new plug.

I tested the Distributor vacuum advance as I still have a slight issue with acceleration. The diaphragm is toast. So I am looking for a new vacuum advance unit. They are a fortune from DMC!
A MGB one costs £6  Rolleyes

As for Retro Show (Santa pod?)I would like to go but according to the website it’s the 17th June? Unfortunately I’m working that day.

Ah! well you're in luck then my man. Cause it's the 24th June, not the 17th! :-D (not Santa Pod)

Is the vacuum advance not the same as a Volvo one then? 240 or 760? Unusual for such a simple item to fail is it not?

RE: Vin 2862 - Nick H - 23 May 2018

Hi Rissy,
Hmm I thought I’d be ok for the 24th but at the moment it’s a no go as well.

Unusual for it to fail I guess. But then it’s 36 Year old rubber. I pulled the Distributor tonight so I could have a proper look.

Vacuum advance is definitely toast. Diaphragm is Holed. Plastic support also shot.
Striped the rest of the Distributor to check the weights.

Question for this evening....spot the missing item Shy

[attachment=334]

I don’t know if springs and the little plastic supports are available? No sign of any shrapnel in the bottom of the casing. Possible new Distributor time Angry
At least the running issues now make sense.
