Probably one of the cheapest around now at $22,750....... But price in a new frame: https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1982-delorean-dmc-c-8415.htm I wonder if the front wing is from a BTTF car looking at the holes in it?

Just spotted this too..... a little beyond my capabilities though Smile

Thats been in a very wet placer a very long time !

Looking at the pictures again, I've no doubt that the mileage is about right. 5K.....very low and the car isn't sun-baked either.

Why isn't someone making Aluminium chassis for these cars???  There'd be a heck of a market for them. Shy

Josh Bennington is, well S/Steel: http://www.deloreanindustries.com/stainless-frame-base/

RE: Project Cars @ BHCC - Chris P - 13 Mar 2018

As I understand it, the Stainless ones are even heaver than the original steel ones.
I can't see why you couldn't do them out of Aluminium. Glued and riveted just like the Morgan and Jag one's...and indeed the Lotus one's. The cost should be less without all that welding with a considerable saving on weight.

RE: Project Cars @ BHCC - Reinsch - 22 Mar 2018

Alloy wheels are actually heavier then steel ones. Unless we talking about racing forged ones.
Same would be possibly with frame. You would have to make it thicker in many places. Welding aluminium is also expensive. alloy tends to crack rather then bend.
And there is also testing that nobody does... that stainless has also no testing done (wonder if as minimum even CAD FEA simulations?) . I would rather go for mild steel one made from scratch.

RE: Project Cars @ BHCC - Chris P - 23 Mar 2018

After visiting several motor manufactures recently , I was struck by Lotus, Jaguar and even Morgan had gone over to the much lighter Alloy chassis. No welding, all folded and pressed  and glued, Jag had rivets as well. You can't rely compare wheels and Chassis.  It would need either a lot of skill and /or some pressings...but it could be done.

Super clean car, just requiring a few minor cosmetics, but then it should be at this price: $54,500 https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1982-delorean-dmc-12-c-8480.htm

RE: Project Cars @ BHCC - Dangermouse - 27 Mar 2018

$54k.

From BHCC.

That BHCC.

RE: Project Cars @ BHCC - Chris P - 27 Mar 2018

strong money.......but I understand that prices in the USA have risen dramatically in the last year or so.

If you exclude the front wing, interesting headlights, missing exhaust, disconnected fuel filter, valve rockers in a bucket Etc it *might* be a reasonable project. Frames not terrible either: https://www.beverlyhillscarclub.com/1981-delorean-dmc-12-c-8373.htm

That, of course assumes that the 90k were finished recently and not in 1995, whence it was parked Smile

It's on it's way to me - managed to haggle them down a bit (thanks Chris W for the heads up). Bit strange after so many years to have a car, especially when it's been done by bank transfer and email, but hopefully in about 8 weeks I'll have a project to relish (and not a wreck to weep over)

Brilliant, I still think that 'may' have had a Volvo lump put in it, be interesting to see.
