Sanity Check - Torque fasteners on suspension - jwrayth - 05 Jan 2015

I'm currently in the process of refreshing my rear suspension, and soon to be putting it all back together. I've stripped everything off the car (caliper, hub, upper/lower links, trailing arm), and now need to look at putting it back together. The workshop manual states that fasteners must be torqued with the car resting on it's suspension.

Am I correct in thinking this applies specifically to;
  • Frame to link fasteners (upper + lower)
  • Link to hub fasteners
  • Shock to hub fastener
  • Shock to frame fastener

I assume the other fasteners can be torqued whilst the car is jacked up? Or do I have to torque the Trailing arm bolts with the suspension loaded also?

Basically any bolt going through a rubber bush needs to be tightened under load.
Otherwise the bushes will get twisted when you lower the car....

Thanks!

Torqued everything up today after re-fitting. All of them went as well as can be expected without a lift, with the exception of the upper shock to frame fastener. Right PITA to try and do as I don't have the right tool to hold the thread whilst torquing the 14mm nut...
