A Classic Start to the New Year at Brooklands

January 1st 2015 - Brooklands Museum

One of, if not the, biggest New Year’s Day turnout of Classic vehicles in the country will captivate spectators and participants alike at Brooklands Museum on 1st January. With over 1,000 vehicles and anything up to 5,000 people expected, there will be something for everybody amongst the classic and performance cars, historic commercial vehicles and motorbikes lined up on the historic concrete (and every other available bit of space) of the Birthplace of British Aviation and Motorsport. Amongst the exotics already pre-booked to be on display will be groups from so 20 car clubs representing makes as varied as Bentley, Rolls-Royce, Alvis, Porsche, Lancia and Lotus, along with spectacular individual vehicles like one of the six cars used in the filming of the classic children’s movie Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Museum Director Allan Winn says: “In 2013 this event attracted over 1,100 different classic vehicles ranging from pre-War racers, commercial vans and motorcycles to super cars, hot rods and everything else in between, and even in the horrendous weather of New Year’s Day 2014 we had hundreds of vehicles and nearly 2,000 people on site, starting off the New Year as they meant to go on. And for January 1st 2015 we’ll have more indoor catering than ever, and attractions like Concorde and our new 4D theatre where people can try the exciting Napier-Railton Race Experience to keep people occupied whatever the weather. The important thing is: everybody’s welcome, no matter what vehicle they bring or when they turn up.”

The gates of the 32-acre site in Weybridge, Surrey will open at 9am on January 1st, to welcome in the droves of spectators eager to see what treasures have turned up. Entry is via the Campbell Gate off Brooklands Road (KT13 0QN) for all types of classics and pre-booked car clubs (and interesting or special younger vehicles, including supercars), while extensive extra parking has been laid on for spectators’ cars in The Heights off Wellington Way.

The Museum’s motoring displays and aircraft, together with the children’s’ Discovery Centre and soft play area, will be open as usual, so there will be something to entertain everyone. The Sunbeam Café and a Winter barbeque will be open for (guaranteed turkey-free!) New Year’s Day lunches and snacks, and normal admission rates apply.

Brooklands Museum is open from 10am to 4pm (until 5pm in summer) every day apart from a few days over Christmas. Admission is £11 for adults, £10 for seniors, £6 for children (aged 5 – 16) and just £30 for a family ticket with adults paying £5 extra for the Concorde or Napier-Railton Race Experiences (children £3).
