Good info, thanks. However I am hoping that given the relatively low mileage covered I should get about a decade out of this one!!

Could be a leaky input shaft seal. The 'o' ring goes hard and lets gearbox oil onto the plates which causes them to slip....

Is there an easy way of checking this or does it all have to come apart? I guess new plates would be required either way?
