DeLorean design inspiration for the McLaren F1? - Jonny Jones - 04 Mar 2007

Was watching one of numerous Top Gear DVD's last night, and Murray Walker was racing round a track in a McLaren F1 and it struck me how VERY similar the electric window surround is to that of the ones used on the DeLorean.

Just a random thought for you all!

yeah its just because of the shape of the door and the fact that the whole glass panel wont slide into the door, hence the small window.

if you want to see delorean similarities in other cars just look at other late 70's/early 80's cars designed by guigiaro.

the lotus esprit of the time, i think he did the aston martin lagonda, isuzu piazza, maserati ghilbi, bmw M1, vw scirocco and some bertone/ghia and ital design concept cars all share common design features to the delorean.

its generally the wedgy shape with triangular rear lines, raked windscreen and the low thin headlights that tend to be the similarity.

Lambo, and Mazda AZ-1 have similar windows too (all have "special doors")... I take it as a "common sense" for car designers??

Just my 2p
