Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - trainmad - 29 Nov 2012

Was possibly mildly sunnier in Wales!

I can assure you Paul that last summer was as non existent here in Wales as yours mate.... show season seems to get shorter every year!

I personally think Feb-May is the new summer... it may be crisper in the mornings but at least its mostly dry and sunny.... ;-)

See you in 2 weeks mate!

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - trainmad - 03 Dec 2012

I dunno, I remember one day was sunny in Wales! They had Alice (which has no cab) running at the Bala Lake Railway so it must've been sunny!

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 07 Dec 2012

well, just a week to go until the meet up, can I remind everyone our table is
booked for 2pm, so can we arrange to get there from 1.30pm onwards?

If anyone cant make it, or wants to add their name to the list, can you let me
know asap so that I can pass revised numbers on to the restaurant.

Can I also extend thanks to Paul Bardill for finding this years venue Smile

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Rissy - 08 Dec 2012

Sorry all (are you really THAT bothered in the first place? Lol) but Sarah and I will definitely not be able to attend this.

Sarah is in the UK, but im not. I'll not be returning until the night of the 18th (if I'm lucky). So I'm a little upset to say please count us out. Sorry to keep you hanging on, but I wanted to hold on to hopes and dreams, which it clearly was from the beginning.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all a tremendous feed, good spirits, friendly banter, and lots of laughing and smiling. To all, whether you're making it to this or not, please have a great festive period. I hope you all have a great Xmas and New Year. I'll see some of you again in 2013.

MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE, AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! Big Grin

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 10 Dec 2012

ah, thats a shame Rissy, was looking forward to seeing you and Sarah again.

Have a great Christmas & Hogmanay, and we'll see you in the New Year xx

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 11 Dec 2012

right, this is all very last minute.com, but I'm trying to rescue our booking for Saturday with
the restaurant.

The owner is demanding £10 per person deposit (which we've never been asked to pay anywhere
before), and I'm saying "thats easier said then done" to him, but he's not having it, and is threatening
to cancel our booking.

I'm still in negotiations with him, so watch this space........

If it does all go tits up, can anyone suggest a back up venue?

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - TheOriginalMrP - 11 Dec 2012

Could do the US diner again....?

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 11 Dec 2012

possibly Ben, but I doubt he will be able to get us in at short notice, it was a struggle
last year.

I'm looking at a place in Ripley, just off the A38 - having spoken to one or two other
people, the 'current' venue could be a nightmare to get to - especially with the weather
the way it often is in the Peak District this time of year, so maybe this is a blessing in
disguise....

Anyway, will let you know about the alternative asap.

Watch this space!!

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 11 Dec 2012

SORTED!!

ok, we are booked in at 'The Excavator', which is on the A610 between the Ripley turn off on the
A38 and Ambergate in Derbyshire.

Still to eat at 2pm, but he said we might have a bit of a wait for our food as its a busy time and they
have a few booked in that day already, but at least they can get us in, as the first few I tried are
fully booked.

Here's the website, its really easy to get too, and is 10-15 mins from J28 of the M1. Also, if the weather
is dodgy, at least we wont get stuck in the snow in the middle of the Peak District at this venue Wink

http://theexcavator.yolasite.com/

I'll make sure this info is x-posted to the Facebook page too, and I'll text Malc and Gaye as I know they
dont get on the forum much.

*Phew!*

Seeya all on Saturday.

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - TheOriginalMrP - 12 Dec 2012

Well done Claire...

As you said this might be a better option anyway. And being a "Marstons" then the food will definately not be overpriced like most venues near Christmas.

I dont mean to sound like a Scrooge lol

Anyway I am stuck in Accident and Emergengy at the moment as I slipped over on ice at work and done my thumb an injury. Its not terminal but I doubt I will be riding my motorbike for a week! I hate these places!

See you all saturday!

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 14 Dec 2012

nice one Ben, look forward to seeing you all tomorrow Big Grin

Re: Midlands Xmas Meet - Guinney1971 - 18 Dec 2012

thanks to everyone who made it on Saturday, especially Ben, Leanne and Toby who drove
over 3hrs from South Wales to be there.

I have to say, I thought the food was excellent, that was certainly one of the best bits of
rump steak I've eaten in a long time.

I'd just like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, and a happy, peaceful and prosperous New Year Big Grin
