Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - RobScott - 26 Jul 2013

the sleaves go on part number 2, the output flange of the gearbox,

Part number 7, is the outboard driveshaft, (the part your wheel connects to)

the seals 24 and 25 are the seals for the output flange.

Smile

any other questions, of if you dont understand, just fire away.

AAAAAAaaaahhhh! The penny drops....

Right, good. ok. I understand now. Thank you for that. I know I can sometime test people's patience, but it's difficult not being near my car a lot, and not having the experience of taking apart big mechanical lumps of metal on cars. I'm much better with small footery things, and electrical stuff. So I appreciate when someone takes the time to explain fully and clearly. SO...still the dilemma of which one(s) to order from the site? Chris P, you said you've just recently done this....any info on which to get?

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - RobScott - 26 Jul 2013

no worries fella, no one can know everything about everything.

Hopefully someone will come back with the measurements for you. Mr Green

...anyone, anyone? Chris P?

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - Rich Hanlon - 29 Jul 2013

I bet if you email Ed or DMCH and ask nicely they'd measure one up for you...

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - Chris P - 30 Jul 2013

Hi Chris,

Not been online for a few days....I only fitted the ( one) thin sleeves because one of my shafts was heavily rust pitted. One was fine with just a new oil seal .

The size is :- 42 X 58 X 10....The original correct ones are brown material and cost a bit more......but the standard black ones for about £4 each work fine for me.

Available from your local bearing specialist.

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - stunned_monkey - 30 Jul 2013

Brown or black material :?: It's a stainless steel sleeve... what did I miss?

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - Chris P - 30 Jul 2013

I was talking of the drive shaft oil seals ....

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - stunned_monkey - 30 Jul 2013

Ah, sorry. In that regard, buy the latest genuine renault seals from a 94 espace

Many thanks for this Chris. I appreciate it. Now one final question for you. Can you please point the proverbial finger at the part number from this linked document which I need to buy? I'm having trouble understanding which is the right one from your quoted measurements....? (sorry - I'm quite dumb sometimes)

I was planning on including all the oil seals with an order from Ed. Will Ed's be ok do you think? I don't know what to ask for from a Renault dealer. (Part number etc)

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - Rich Hanlon - 31 Jul 2013

Ed's will be fine, they're the same part, by geting renault ones Chris has just gone the extra step that Ed has also gone, which was to find the original source. They'll probably be from the same manufacturer.

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - stunned_monkey - 31 Jul 2013

Not necessarily, there are a number of evolutions of that seal and many pattern part replacements are based on the earlier types with the single lip. Renault clearly had terrible trouble with leaks because the most recent iteration has no fewer than 3 lips on it. Seals from Renault won’t be the cheapest but they will be the best. If Ed is sourcing his from Renault, you can be pretty sure it’d be cheaper to go to Renault…

As far as I know everyone sells the injector seals from Volvo by way of another example, yet late Renault K-Jet PRV’s came with a fantastic ribbed seal which is a far better design. There are only two DeLoreans out there with these seals, Claire’s is one.

Sorry Chris, the direct answer is that I don’t know, but the reference is a late Espace circa 95ish (when it still had a PRV)

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - Guinney1971 - 31 Jul 2013

I'd forgotten about those seals Martin, mind you it was prob about 10yrs ago when they were fitted.

If its a 95 Espace, it will be a late model Mk2, which had the 2.9 V6 - the Mk3 Espace came out in
1997 and had the 3.0 24v V6.

Re: Two Gear box Oil Leaks - stunned_monkey - 31 Jul 2013

And I bet they're as tight as the day they were fitted Wink

What renault called the B29, Volvo called the B280, go figure. It's the same 2849cc as the delorean engine. What's important is that it had the UN1 transmission which I think they binned with the change to the L7X going transverse
