That's been up a few times in the last 6 months and didn't sell.

Can't say the painted body and interior colour do anything for me, but then one man's meat is another man's poison.

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - dknight - 02 Aug 2012

i think the paint and interior do tick 2 boxes to make it very unappealing to the average delorean fan/enthusiast

id be more interested in underneath and engine bay pics to help the sale

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - Dan Willis - 03 Aug 2012

Paint wouldn't put me off - but at the price, I wouldn't. Maybe half that...

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - MikeWard - 03 Aug 2012

Half it and keep going, it's what's under the paint you need to worry about Smile

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - Guinney1971 - 03 Aug 2012

there's been a few cheap cars in the US recently, I seem to recall a Facebook discussion about
a red one that sold for $7,000 !

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - dknight - 04 Aug 2012

yeah there has been, i saw this one, if i was in a better position i would have had it

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - Guinney1971 - 04 Aug 2012

crikey, thats a good price, and tbh, whats wrong is what goes wrong with most of them
so fixing it up wouldnt be a major problem.

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - dknight - 05 Aug 2012

yeah that is what i thought, it was defo an enthusiasts purchase so i think that kept the price down, would love to know where it ended up and the progress

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - Guinney1971 - 05 Aug 2012

me too, that could be a 'double yer money' car very easily

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - stunned_monkey - 05 Aug 2012

Notice nowhere in the auction does it say it's painted - just that it's silver. I'd put money on there being body damage underneath, simply because it'd be a pointless colour to paint a DeLorean!

It's frame is quite rusty, the seller sent me pics, overall it needs quite a bit of work really. I thought it ended up going too expensive given the condition to be honest, but it's an ideal project car. There seems a lot of interest in rough ones these days, don't see them selling for around $5-6k like you used to.

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - Guinney1971 - 06 Aug 2012

the really cheap ones are worth more in parts - my car ($4500 in 2002) was advertised
'spares or repair' - I think its fair to say mine might have been a borderline resto project
to some people, but 10yrs on I'm persevering with the car, and she'll be finished.... one day....

I think I remember reading somewhere that a DeLorean, in bits, sold off piece by piece, was worth something in the region of £140,000 (could have been $ though) ....I guess this would be IF all the parts were resalable (decent condition). It's probably the big bits more than anything that bump up the total individual parts valuation. I'm sure a chassis and a whole tub, and the body panels of course, would fetch a handsome value if sold off as separate items.....?

Re: DeLorean On Ebay UK - stunned_monkey - 06 Aug 2012

That may have been in my article on marine insurance when bringing a car in from the US. Because the only replacement value would be in parts, it'd be fiendishly expensive to insure a DeLorean. It doesn't follow that you could make £140k by breaking one up. A part is only worth something if there's someone ready to buy it - look at the passenger side torsion bar...
