WIPER ARM - ayr41 - 12 Nov 2011

On my Right Hand drive the wiper arm has in the past been repaired with a hard resin the actual piece that fits on to the spindle this has split about 2cms from the hole and has now come loose and got worse when the replacement windscreen was fitted and the arm was removed, normal LHD arms are no use as they are angled the wrong way for a RHD, is there a wiper arm from another car that would fit the spindle. Thanks Stephen.

The DeLorean wiper elbow is unique. I've had them hand made in the past by my favourite engineering company, however a friend of mine has recently converted his little 3-axis mill to being fully CnC capable.

I was just thinking the other day that the perfect thing to test on it it would be a RHD wiper arm elbow.

Drop me an email at martin@delorean.co.uk if you're interested. I'll need to CAD model it first.

Re: WIPER ARM - stunned_monkey - 18 Nov 2011

Well I felt like a challenge and frankly I needed the CAD practise (I've had to move from pro/Engineer which I know well to Siemens NX at Dyson). I have a couple of left-hand wiper arms here which came from the car we most recently converted, so was able to take that as a pattern. I haven't included the bush on the main pivot but that's easy to modify.

The model's here for anyone who needs it.

I forgot to mention those screenshots are in Isometric view (no perspective) so it can look a little too big/small in places.

I know how to get pro/E to display in perspective... *grumble*

Re: WIPER ARM - Guinney1971 - 19 Nov 2011

all funky stuff Martin, is there anything else on the De that you can re-design
and get made if need be?

Re: WIPER ARM - stunned_monkey - 19 Nov 2011

I can model just about anything. Going from cad model to physical reality is a different matter. I've been using cad for DeLorean work since I did my cad course 2 years ago. It's very handy for spitting out drawings to hand to machine shops or laser cutters etc.

What did you have in mind?

Re: WIPER ARM - Guinney1971 - 22 Nov 2011

oh nothing at the moment springs to mind....... actually, thinking about it, I bet
coil covers would be a good seller if they were reasonable enough. Mines missing,
and alot of them break because the plastic is so brittle.

Re: WIPER ARM - stunned_monkey - 22 Nov 2011

but fibreglass ones have been available from the US for years...?

NX is a pain in the bum. You want to try doing 300+ individual X,Y,Z points to three decimal places. BY HAND. With no import function. Grrr

I've just today dumped it in favour of Solid Works!

I know, but its shipping from the US and the expense of the parts in the first place.
